How to connect an Allenbradley or any PLC?

Hi

Can anybody give expertise advise on how to connect PLC.

We have two PLC's to connect . One is Allenbradley and another one is Siemens. ( i dont know model number's yet )

So , What is the process of connecting those PLC's for two scenarios ( OPC compliant and Not ).

What is the role of xMII OPC DA UDS xMII UDS roles in connecting that plc.

What is the easiest,good and recommended approach ?

Please Advice.

Hello, Hari.

You can purchase two OPC Server(s) from Kepware (www.kepware.com) for your Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC's (but be certain to purchase the correct protocol/version based on what mechanism you'll be using to communicate to your PLC's - such as Data Highway, Ethernet, Serial, etc...). You will then use these OPC servers with the MII OPC Universal Data Server (UDS).

Personally, I do not think it is a good idea to directly connect to a PLC from MII. I would recommend purchasing an HMI/SCADA license from Wonderware, Siemens, or Allen Bradley (all of which can connect to both brands of PLCs) and connect to the HMI, instead of the PLC's directly.

If you do wish to connect directly to the PLC, I highly recommend using the "Alias" capability of the OPC UDS to make it a much easier implementation.

One of the products my company has developed, called xDDI (acsisinc.com) can connect and interact directly with PLC's and variouse other hardware and integrate with MII as well.
