First things first, What are third-party cookies?

Let's start with First-party cookies. First-party cookies are usually generated and placed on the user’s device by the website that the user is visiting. Such cookies are often used for facilitating user experience and some core functionalities of the site. For e.g. first-party cookies can identify returning visitors so that they do not have to use the username and password to log in on successive visits SSO. They are usually harmless since they do not “spy” on the users.

Instead the Third-party cookies are generated and placed on the user’s device by a different website other than the one the user is visiting. They are created when a user visits a website that includes elements from other sites, such as third-party images or ads. If a server hosting one of these elements responds to the request by setting a cookie, that cookie is stored on the user’s browser.

When we talk about Google, this data is collected by Google Chrome. For Marketing specialists this is very valuable, since it shows the purchasing habits of users on the web.

Have you ever wondered how ads seem to follow users around the internet?

The answer lies in third-party cookies.

Imagine users are browsing a website selling sunglasses and check out some stylish aviators. They don’t buy them yet, but move on to a different website, let’s say a news channel. Suddenly, they start seeing ads for similar aviators and other sunglasses on the news website and various other websites they visit, even though they never searched for them there.

So, the third-party cookie acted like a tracker, connecting the user’s browsing activity across different websites

How does this involve SF?

SAP SuccessFactors uses third-party cookies for embedded iFrames to load some of the content and functionalities within the suite. Some examples of this iFrame embedding are the Learning header and the action links, SAC embedded Report Center page, and Employee Central (EC) Payroll embedded into the HXM EC using iFrame will be impacted.

What is an iframe?

An inline frame (iframe) is a HTML element that loads another HTML page within the document. It essentially puts another webpage within the parent page.

Since Google announced their plan to deprecate third-party cookies support in their Chrome browsers in Q3 2024, SAP SuccessFactors has been working on a solution to be delivered prior to the deprecation in 2024.

What's the solution then?

SAP has created the "Common Super Domain (CSD) solution" to avoid negative impacts.

The CSD solution consist in migrate all the  *.successfactors.com, *.successfactors.eu, *.sapsf.com or *.sapsf.cn, etc.) to the new common super domain (*.cloud.sap or *.sapcloud.cn for China data centers).

To make it clear: BizX, IAS, Learning, Onboarding 1.0, EC Payroll, SAC, BIRT, and WFA will migrate to the new common super domain.

OK, What do I need to do?

First of all read carefully the Customer/Partner Guide

It supposed that SAP SuccessFactors will contact each client and will provide guidance of the solution offering the opportunity to migrate to the CSD. At the end the process will be made as a self-service migration through the Upgrade Center.

If you haven't received the alert yet here you is one more time the Customer/Partner Guide with the detailed process.

There are two steps to CSD migration

1. Check Tool checks – These checks will ensure that your tenant is ready for seamless CSD Migration
by checking all the pre-requisites.
2. CSD Migration – An upgrade will be available under Admin Center -> Upgrade Center -> Important
upgrades. When Upgrade Now button is clicked, all the pre-requisite checks(same ones those are
executed through the check tool) are executed and actual CSD migration will start.

Issue Solvers

If the CSD migration process runs into any error, report a support tickets to the LOD-SF-PLT-CSD
component.

For any issues post completion of the migration, SAP suggest to report support tickets to relevant module component where the issue is seen. For example: LOD-SF-LMS component for issues found in SuccessFactors Learning.
