SAP SuccessFactors has announced that Stories in People Analytics will replace all other SuccessFactors reporting tools in a phased timeline.  The legacy tool deactivation process will start with Classic Reporting in the second half of 2024, followed by Tile and Dashboards in the second half of 2025.  As of the writing of this blog, the retirement date for Canvas and Table Reports has not been disclosed.  Dates are subject to change, so please refer to the Innovation Alert titled "Retirement of Canvas, Table, Tiles/Dashboards, and Classic Report Types" (Link) in the SAP Community for the most up-to-date dates.

Despite the deprecation of the Legacy tools, there are numerous compelling reasons to transition to Stories in People Analytics, including:

  • It serves as the only reporting tool for the new SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding module.
  • Its data manipulation and visualization capabilities surpass those of the Legacy tools.
  • It embodies the user-friendliness expected in modern interfaces.

Regardless of the factors driving your transition to Stories in People Analytics, it is important for you to start planning the migration to Stories.  Here are 3 key steps that you can swiftly take to kick-start the migration process:

Step 1: Complete the required activation steps. Perform the required technical steps to activate Stories in your Test System.  The activation consists of two key steps: activating Stories through the Upgrade Center in the SuccessFactors system and synchronizing your users with SAP Analytics Cloud via Identity Provisioning Services (IPS). It is important to keep in mind that both Identity Authentication Services (IAS) and Identity Provisioning Services (IPS) are prerequisites for Stories.  You can find more information on the Stories activation steps in the “SAP SuccessFactors Legacy Reporting Transition FAQs” (Link).

Step 2: Enhance your understanding of Stories in People Analytics. The next task is to enable your SuccessFactors analytics and reporting team to improve their proficiency in Stories. You can utilize the resources available in the SAP SuccessFactors Administrative Learning Center (SFALC) or enroll them in the course "HR884 - SAP SuccessFactors People Analytics Story Reporting" to enhance their skills in Stories and building Story Reports in Stories.

In addition to learning the capabilities of Stories in People Analytics, it is also important to become familiar with the known gaps.  As of the time of writing this blog, there isn't complete feature parity between Stories and the legacy reporting tools, so it's crucial to be mindful of the existing limitations. The final area where you need to enhance your understanding is on the functionality of Role-Based Permissions (RBP) for Stories, since this will provide insight into how the current Access Roles may be impacted.

Step 3: Install Story Templates: Finally, it would be beneficial to deploy the Story Templates to experience the capabilities of Stories firsthand. It is recommended to study the functionalities of different Story Templates and install only those that align with the needs of your organization. SAP SuccessFactors offers 55 Story Template reports, and additional details about these templates can be found at this link.

Next steps

The subsequent steps would involve creating a catalog of your legacy reports, creating a migration plan, and starting to recreate your legacy reports in Stories in People Analytics. It's worth highlighting that since Stories in People Analytics utilizes a different data schema, SAP does not offer a migration tool from the legacy reporting tools.
