Hi SAP Basis,

I have faced this issue in a lot of SAP Installations.

The reason for this is, that old SAP Solutions (By old i mean to say SAP Kernel 700 or kernels which are not 720 or likewise) you will have to use Oracle Client 10.2 only. You can not use Oracle Client 11 for that matter, however you can use Oracle 11g RDBMS but not oracle client 11.

So the sequence for installation is that, you provide the required Oracle 10g Client media, complete the installation and then later on manually upgrade the oracle Client to 11.

Let me know, if you face any further issues.

Please award points, if you found the answer helpful.

Hi,

It means finally i will go a head with 10.2 and later upgrade to 11.2 .If i am wrong correct me .

At present Oracle 11 is installed in mys syetm for Bo prosepective is thir inconsistency while installing Oracle 10 databse ( I measn 2 datsbases in one server)

Yes. You are correct.  You need to use oracle 10.2 and later you can upgrade to 11.2

You wont face any inconsistencies due to this upgrade.

Please refer the Note 998004 - Update the Oracle Instant Client on Windows on how to update your oracle client.

Please check and provide your feedback.

Hi,

Yes as far as we are talking about Oracle Client, you should provide media for Oracle 10.2 Client and upgrade the client to 11.2 after Installation.

I believe that Oracle 11g RDBMS is valid for SAP Netweaver CE 7.2.

What is your platform i.e. OS?

Have you checked PAM for Netweaver CE 7.2?

Akshay

Hi,

You will be upgrading only the oracle client because you have already installed oracle database 11g.

So just install oracle client 10.2 and later upgrade it to 11.2

Even if you have oracle client version 10.2  in your new server and oracle client 11.2 in BO dev server. It is not a problem. It will work.

Your client version is just dependent of that system not to the other systems.

I hope this helps.

Please check and provide your feedback.

Hi

Try downloading sl controller 720 file. When you unzip this file and use it in spinst you should be able to use oracle 11 client. Please check PAM.

Hi,

Please check the below link which shows that oracle 11G is supported/valid  in your Netweaver CE7.2

https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/support/pam/pam.html?smpsrv=https%3a%2f%2fwebsmp10...

Please navigate to database/install folder there you can see the sapserver.cmd file. Right click on it and start as administrator.. If  you dont find it, you can click on setup.exe file and proceed.

In one step, it will prompt to enter the path to install the products . in the text box enter your oracle desired location like D:\oracle\SID\112_64

Once the installation is completed, please check the environmental variables.

Thanks and Regards,

Vimal
