Hello,
While performing Kernel Upgrade (4.7 Enterprise Edition), I noticed that the in the system the following 2 directories have the same kernel files
G:\usr\sap\B47\SYS\exe\run
G:\usr\sap\B47\SYS\exe\nuc\NtIntel
There can't be 2 kernel directories. So I tried looking for Parameter - DIR_CT_RUN in the START profile.
But I couldn't find DIR_CT_RUN
So, which one of the above 2 directories is the Kernel directory?
And why are there 2 directories having the same kernel files?
Thanks.

Hi,
In one of my R/3 4.7 system, I have got these kernel directories on the CI/DB server :
T:\usr\sap\PLG\SYS\exe\run where the running kernel is found
T:\usr\sap\PLG\SYS\exe\nuc\NTAMD64
T:\usr\sap\PLG\SYS\exe\nuc\NTI386
T:\usr\sap\PLG\SYS\exe\nuc\NtIa64
Why because the central instance server runs on Windows Itanium 64 bit and we have some application servers running on Windows Intel x86 32 bit and some others on Windows Intel x86 64 bit.
At startup, the server (central or app server) copies the main kernel executables from the right architecture to the right running kernel directory.
This is a way to mke sure that all serevers from the same SAP system run the same kerne l patch level for the right architecure.

Olivier

Hi,
>So, while doing Kernel Upgrade, I just need to copy the new files to - \usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run ?
>Then during startup, the system will automatically copy them into - \usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\nuc\NTIntel
This is just the contrary : Files are copied from \usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\nuc\NTIntel (architecture reference) to
\usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run (running kernel)
But you still have to update both directories because sapcpe does not copy all kernel files, just the main ones.

Olivier
