Availability monitoring CCMSPING or hostagent

Hi Experts

We are using hostagent to monitor our satellite systems using solution manager system as CEN. Recently we are now setting up availability monitoring using ccmsping. For this we have to separately register ccmsping agent.

Both are working for us.

My query is regarding the requirement of ccmsping agent to set up availability monitoring. Is it possible to set availability monitoring using hostagent only without having ccmsping agent?  Or we need to have ccmsping agent in addition to hostagent to have availability monitoring.

We are getting alerts from hostagent when saposcol goes down on any server. Which indirectly points us that somehting with services on that server. But its not specific to that instance availability. So I want to confirm whether it is possible to have instance availability alerts using hostagent only or we need to have ccmsping as well

Thanks

Hi Varun,

Hostagent is for Operating system (monioring OS services, process), Host agent won't monitor SAP system, but OS and will send OS related details to SAP.

CCMSPING is the program that will monitor SAP.

In other words, Hostagent is more of OS and CCMSPING is more of SAP and not vice-versa.

You will require CCMSPING for every system you would like to monitor be it SOLMAN or any satellite system, though you can ignore Solman.

Thanks Prithviraj

That clarifies the doubts

So we are good to go ahead with ccmsping for availability monitoring in addition to hostagent related monitoring set up. It is also clear now that ccmsping is required on each instance for which we want to have instance availability monitoring; irrespective of it being solman or satellite.

Thanks
