[BUG]Moderator activity in the Activity stream

Jelena
Active Contributor

This has already been mentioned on SCN but no changes so far. Various moderator activities are showing up in the activity streams of the moderator followers. We should not see such information.

1. Exhibit A - I still get pages full of this "performed action" nonsense.

2. Not sure what happened with Exhibit B (moderator comments). Nothing about this in the Known Issue list.

3. I constantly see "X updated the question" where X is a moderator. These are usually tag reassignments and such, I figure.

These items should not be visible to the moderator's SCN followers. If anything, this is a privacy issue. If I'm not the one moderated - keep it out of my stream. Please put this on a list and give this a priority.

Hi Jelena,

Recently, I had been experiencing a form of this where I was following a moderator, and anytime that moderator released something in the queue, I would see that in my activity stream, even though I was not following the author, that tag, or that content item.

This has now been resolved, and I think I can say with confidence that moderator activities are no longer making their way into people's activity streams. (Of course, now that I said "with confidence," I'm sure someone will point out how misguided I am! )

Anyway, it may have been a while coming, but the fix is in place.

Hello Jelena,

Thanks for summarizing your feedback nicely. I have a ticket created for the (second issue) - Likes and edits on editorial comments should not be shown in the Activity Stream. The problem is that this issue is categorized behind some of the other more pressing issues currently and that is why it has not been resolved yet. In the meantime I will request to update the known issues page while this ticket is being processed. And this change is certainly within the scope. Thank you so much for highlighting it.

(first issue) Also has been identified as a UI bug. As much as I would like for this to be solved, this too sadly has been categorized behind the pressing matters and will be resolved as soon as possible.

(third issue) I completely agree that such updates should not be in the Activity Stream. I am currently working with other SMEs to address this issue and will update you.

Thanks,

Sajid Amir

Sajid, thank you for a reply. I'm wondering if anyone could update the "known issues" list, so that at least we could see how far behind the other pressing matters these items are. It seems the list has not been updated for quite some time.

Thank you.

Oh hi, Jelena! I see you posted this over a year ago and it looks like "as soon as possible" still has not come. Imagine that.

Just today I opened the activity stream and see stuff like "Performed the action 'replace' on an object of type answer" (issue # 1 in your post). Also I can see when the moderators accept or un-accept an answer (it's not in their own question, so I can only guess it's part of their activity in the moderator capacity). Actually, in the activity stream I don't care at all to see if anyone accepted any answers. When my own is accepted it goes into Notifications and it seems sufficient.

So I'm kind of wondering where this is at and when exactly will we stop seeing any moderator activity in our streams.

Hello Jelena, steffi.warnecke,

It has been a year hasn't it! Time sure flies on SAP Community 😄

Joking aside, I just checked and I can confirm that the following two issues has been solved:

1. Likes and edits on editorial comments being shown on activity stream for other users: https://answers.sap.com/questions/101371/bug-activity-stream-shows-non-existing-comments-be.html

2. Phrasing for "Un-accepting an answer" is inaccurate when shown in the activity stream
Unfortunately we after investigating further I learned that we have inaccurate activity stream phrasing showing up for the following (thankfully not that popular) activities:

  • retract question
  • close question
  • lock comment

So thanks for escalating that issue here Jelena. Let me see if your requests can help re-prioritize the importance of this bug.

As for accepting an answer showing up in the stream, thanks for sharing your preference. I have personally found that helpful however, as it allows me keep track of which questions find acceptable responses or solutions on an ongoing basis - may not be as concrete as confirming through the Questions roll page, but regardless. I understand that it can be cumbersome to look at at times, but we are planning to combat such issues through careful grouping of updates by content items for the new experience.

Please feel free to reach out to me with comments and concerns and I will be happy to elaborate/discuss further.

Thanks,

Sajid

Sajid, not sure you understood me correctly. I wasn't talking about the Notifications, this is about the Activities tab where the activity of the people I follow is displayed. The accepted/unaccepted answer was to some random question and the only reason it appeared in my Activitie is because I follow a moderator. Why would anyone ever care about the faith of the answers to the questions that have nothing to do with them whatsoever?

It's not a matter of redundant items or poor grouping. In my view, whatever moderators do in their moderator capacity is strictly between them and the person subject to moderation or the platform. None of those activities must appear in the activity stream for the moderator followers. This is a bug, in my opinion (and this never occurred on SCN before).

Could SCN team please discuss this issue with the Moderators? I'm pretty sure they would want and expect the same thing.

Thank you.
