Over the last few releases, SAP SuccessFactors has advanced into a Talent Intelligence Platform, helping organisations move towards a skills-based organisation by offering an AI-based skills management and recommendation solution. However, in my conversations with customers, a common misconception has emerged. Many users of other Talent Intelligence Platforms, or those using SAP SuccessFactors Learning as the only module within SuccessFactors, have expressed that they need to see the necessity of integrating Talent Intelligence within SAP SuccessFactors. This belief, however, is based on a misunderstanding of the platform's capabilities and the substantial benefits it offers.

This blog will only look at the latter case – customers using SAP SuccessFactors Learning only. SAP SuccessFactors Learning has an established track record and strength in managing the learning process for organisations with robust compliance and job-related learning needs. As a result, several Workday and Oracle customers continue to use SAP SuccessFactors as their learning platform. This is even more prevalent in the Pharma and Life Sciences industry, where the learning systems need to be validated as per the GxP processes.

Skills usually belong in the core HR/Talent platform; for organisations that only use the learning module in SuccessFactors, this belongs in other HR or Talent systems, and skills should be managed there. However, to drive an actual skills-based experience – which covers skill maintenance, development, and acquisition – it is vital to link your learning offering to skills.

Understanding Talent Intelligence Hub

Before we delve deeper, let's understand what Talent Intelligence Hub is and its significance. The Talent Intelligence Hub is a transformative component of SAP SuccessFactors, designed to revolutionise how organisations manage and develop talent. It comprises three key elements:

Attribute Library: This serves as the organisation's comprehensive skill library, a dynamic repository of skills that can be tailored to specific organisational needs. It is the foundation upon which skills management and development are built.

Talent Intelligent Foundation: The Talent Intelligence Hub's foundation element, the skills ontology, is at the heart of its operation. This sophisticated AI-driven engine powers SAP SuccessFactors' inference and recommendation capabilities. It analyses skills data to provide insightful recommendations for skill development and alignment across the organisation.

Growth Portfolio: This component represents the user's personal skill profile. It tracks skill development and acquisition, providing a personalised roadmap for growth. Importantly, this is permission-driven, so you can hide this from users to minimise confusion about where skills are managed, ensuring a focus on development rather than administration.

The integration of these components within SAP SuccessFactors Learning enables a seamless, integrated learning experience that supports compliance and job-related training and fosters continuous skill development and growth. Integrating Talent Intelligence: The Benefits

Integrating Talent Intelligence with SAP SuccessFactors Learning offers a unified approach to skills management and learning, applicable to organisations with existing skill libraries and those starting anew. Here's how it enhances the learning experience:

Skill Library Integration

SAP SuccessFactors can import data from various platforms through productised integrations in the Integration Center. This flexibility supports two main actions:

- Attribute Import: Import the skill library from the source system to SAP SuccessFactors. For organisations with an existing skill library, this can be set to a daily import, ensuring any new skills in the source data are promptly reflected in SuccessFactors.

- Portfolio Import: Import the user's skill profile from master skill platforms. This tool enriches the learning recommendations engine within SuccessFactors with personalised content suggestions.

Once imported, the "Attribute Synchronization" process automatically integrates these attributes into SAP SuccessFactors Learning, maintaining a seamless skills database.

For organisations without a pre-existing skill management framework, the journey begins with setting up a foundational structure:

Setup Job Profile Builder: A simplified setup focusing on essential information, possibly just the job title, can lay the groundwork for skill-based learning.

Setup Skills Library: Options include utilising SAP SuccessFactors Skillsplex Library, leveraging content vendors like LinkedIn Learning or Coursera, or creating an organisation-specific library with the help of tools developed by TalenTeam. The TalenTeam extension approach, powered by AI, customises the skill library to the organisation's unique profile.

 Learning Content and Skills Linking

Linking learning content with skills allows users to search for content by skills and enables the recommendation engine to suggest the most relevant content based on the user's skill profile. Key features to consider are:

- Rating System: Admins can enable options like "Provide rating" for assessments, allowing the automatic update of the Growth Portfolio with new ratings. This ensures a dynamic feedback loop where skill assessments directly influence learning recommendations.

Content Tagging with Skills: Addressing the challenge of maintaining a vast content volume, TalenTeam has developed an accelerator that efficiently maps learning content to the skills library. This automation keeps the skill data continuously updated, minimising the administrative burden.

Continuous Update and Maintenance

The integrated approach allows for an enhanced, more integrated learning experience for employees across systems without the cumbersome task of maintaining data in multiple platforms. For organisations starting without a skill management system, the detailed setup introduces a skill-based learning experience that can evolve and align with broader organisational skill strategies as they develop.

Once these are set, users can start to benefit from the following features

· Skill-based recommendations – users will start to get course recommendations based on the skill profile based on the job profile.

· Search for content by skills – SAP SuccessFactors learning search now includes skills as a search filter and parameter for a more targeted search.

· Skill Attainment – Some courses can provide a skill rating, which can be shown on the Growth Portfolio. Users can also add additional skills to that screen, such as interest skills.

This setup allows employees an enhanced skill-based learning experience. Once HR has implemented the skills tool, it can easily be tailored in the future to align with the organisation's skill approach.
