BO XI 3.0 licensing and where instal question for CR2008

Hello All

I am new to Business Objects Enterprise and I need to help in improving my understanding.

Previously I have worked with Crystal Reports 2008 connecting to SAP R/3 via the SAP integration kit. CR2008 and SAP integration kit installed on desktop with the SAP transports loaded to SAP. All works well and can report on SAP tables etc.

I am now working for a company that has Business Objects XI 3.0 and I am now confused as to how things should be installed.

My goal is to create CR2008 reports linked to SAP tables etc, but I am not sure of what needs to be installed where. My questions are:

1. Does the CR2008 designer software need to be installed on a local PC or on the server?

2. If CR2008 is installed on server how is this mad available for users to access so that they can create reports within CR2008.

3. Are the licenses for CR2008 included in the purachse of XI 3.0 or are they needed to be purchased seperately.

Thanks your help is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

Regarding question 1: Does the CR2008 designer software need to be installed on a local PC or on the server?

Answer: I would suggest it to install it on the local clients or on a windows terminal server. You can also install it on the BOBJ server but when someone works with it then additionaly load is generated on the CPUs of your server.

Regarding question 2: If CR2008 is installed on server how is this mad available for users to access so that they can create reports within CR2008.

Answer: the CR 2008 designer is not a server rather a client. You can try to work over remote desktop connection but there is a limitation on the number of sessions that can be opened at once. And you still have to make sure that you have enough licenses for each developer that is using the designer.

Regarding question 3:Are the licenses for CR2008 included in the purachse of XI 3.0 or are they needed to be purchased seperately?

Answer: I would suggest to contact your local SAP sales office about this.
