Hello

I was told it is better to upgrade to 11g from 10.2.0.5 instead of from 10.2.0.4.

So if I understood I have just to run Oracle patchset (./runinstaller) with ora<sid>" user

Am I right?

Thank you in advace

Hello everybody,

I'm in the same situation.

The Upgrade guide has this prerequisites:

Prerequisites:

In the following special cases you need to obtain more information:

—If you are upgrading from Oracle 10.2 to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) in manual mode (in this guide we only describe the database upgrade using the DBUA)

—If the source database runs Oracle 10.2 with patch set lower than 10.2.0.5, you need to first upgrade the source database to at least patch set 10.2.0.5.

I've to clarify that this are the prerequisite for UNIX upgrade, I don't know for Windows if its different.

Any information is welcome!

Junior.

Hi Junior,

Prerequisites:

In the following special cases you need to obtain more information:

—If you are upgrading from Oracle 10.2 to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) in manual mode (in this guide we only describe the database upgrade using the DBUA)

—If the source database runs Oracle 10.2 with patch set lower than 10.2.0.5, you need to first upgrade the source database to at least patch set 10.2.0.5.

Means - Exact Steps/Procedure mentioned in latest/updated upgrade guide is for database upgrades from 10.2.0.5 to 11gR2.

But same steps are applicable for database upgrades from 10.2.0.4 to 11gR2 also, Guide says to obtain more details before you proceed with upgrade.

Database upgrade from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2/higher is very well supported and the procedure is same as other upgrades (10.2.0.5 to 11gR2).

There is no such restrictions.

If you are upgrading from Oracle 10.2 to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) in manual mode

If the source database runs Oracle 10.2.0.2, you need to first update the source database to at least patch set 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5. You can then perform the upgrade from 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 to 11.2.0.2, as described in this guide.

So both 10.2.0.4 and 10.2.0.5 are all supported.

I was told it is better to upgrade to 11g from 10.2.0.5 instead of from 10.2.0.4.

Why?

Upgrade from 10.2.0.4 to 11gR2 is very well supported and it's a seamless upgrade procedure.

I would go with direct upgrade to 11gR2, procedure is clearly mentioned in standard upgrade guide.

Hello

The patch set upgrade from 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5 involves installing the Oracle software based on the target patch level using the runinstaller, applying the latest SBP and then upgrade the database to 10.2.0.5 patch level using DBUA.

Please check this SAP guide for Oracle upgrade to 11G
