Upgrade BO4.0 to BO4.1. Promotion Manager: Could not reach CMS

Hi Everyone

We recently upgraded our BO Dev and QA environment from BO 4.0 SP4 Patch 5 to BO 4.1 SP3 (no patch).

Promotion Problem:

Source:                 Destination:                Result:

Prod (4.0)              Dev / QA (4.1)             Success
Dev / QA (4.1)        Prod (4.0)                   Success

Dev (4.1)                QA (4.1)                     Error

QA (4.1)                Dev (4.1)                     Error

So we are able to promote between 4.0 and 4.1, but not between 4.1 and 4.1.

We get the following error if we try to promote between 4.1 and 4.1. It happens when you try to connect to a different 4.1 system as the source or destination.

"Could not reach CMS *********** Specify the correct host and port and check for network issues. (FWVM 20030)"

Any ideas?

Regards

Antonette

Thank you for all the inputs guys

We found the solution. This note did the trick.

"Cause

The hosts file entry for Business Intelligence 4.0 Server in the following Windows directory "<drive>:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" has the incorrect IP address for itself."

This is more of a good practice rather than a solution.

Do IP Binding and Port Binding on both source and destination Central Management Server.

Check if Internal Firewall is turned off on both systems.

HI,

Are you able to get ping response from DEV - QA / QA - DEV, please check this. As it is more related to your issue.

Thanks,

Hi Antonette,

Try to connect using the IP address of the BI server instead of the server name.

Also, please refer to the following SAP Note for the error observed:

2011420 - Error:"Communication failure error FWM 20030" when trying to promote lcmbiar using Command...

However, in the above mentioned Note the error is observed when environment has CORBA SSL configured.

Thank you for the reply, however we do not use CORBA SSL.

Hi Antonette,

You should try to check the connectivity between the machines.

Try running telnet between the server machines.

The port that you need to test is 6400 (default CMS port).

This port should be open bi-directionally.

Make the host file entries as well.

This should make things work.

Thank you for the reply. The ports are fine. We are able to connect to some systems. If we could not connect in any way, maybe then this would have been relevant.

Antonette,

This surely something related to connectivity for sure.

Check if you have multiple NIC cards and set priority for the one that you are using.

If you want to know as what happened pull out CMS high level trace to know what went wrong.

Jatin
