System Copy

Hi Experts,

I have to create a new sandbox system using online backup from the production system. I can't take export or offline backup as outage for the production systems is not possible. Can you please give me the detailed document for a system copy (in a new system) in Linux and Oracle?

Also, in this case, the infrastructure team would need to only copy over the /oracle/<sid>/sapdata* , /oracle/<sid>/origlog* and /oracle/<sid>/mirrlog* files?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Neha

Hi Neha,

What i understand is that you want to build the test system using online backup from Prod and restoring it on sandbox.

Please check the below link for details on it.

Thanks Manas, yes this is the scenario but in my case they will be new systems, so Oracle software will not be installed on them.

So, what would be the steps for a new system created using copy (it won't be a refresh in this case).

Thanks,

Neha - Please refer to the system copy guide for all the prerequisite tasks. You can find it using the SAP NetWeaver Guide Finder .

Some high level activities will be:

1. Setup the target system as per the guide. Have the id's & mounts created, Install the oracle software.

2. Restore the production backup

3. Run the SWPM to install the SAP application (use system copy option and backup/restore option during the input phase).

4. If you are doing distributed installation still you will have to run the DB installation backup/restore option.

5. Do the post copy activities like BDLS e.t.c

Note since you are copying Production system, make sure to interrupt the sandbox installation, disable the batch job so that no unwanted job is triggered and once the installation is complete suspend all the jobs using BTCTRNS1 and also disable RFC's & SCOT.

Please go through the system copy guide carefully and plan your activity.

Hi Manas,

In the below point -

1. Setup the target system as per the guide. Have the id's & mounts created, Install the oracle software.

Oracle is otherwise installed during the installation of the complete system. How can I install it prior? I guess I would just need the binaries right? Which media should I use to install it?

Thanks,

Neha - Yes, you will have to install the Oracle database software binaries. If you start the SWPM system copy without Oracle installed, you will get a pop-up like below and then you will have to install the binaries.

You can get the Software and Client for your desired version from Market Place.

You will have to select backup/restore option and the installer will prompt you when it's ready to restore the backup taken from Prod.

Thanks,

Manas
