Hi,
What is the significance of 3rd party tools like iXOS,BMC software ...etc for SAP data archiving ?Whether we can do an archiving without any 3rd party tools.
Regards,
Cherry
Hi Cherry,
You can do archiving without using a 3rd party tools.
The 3rd party tools utilize the SAP standard archiving features to actually archive the data, verify it, and delete it. SAP archiving writes to flat files and offer reload and basic querying options.
3rd party can offer additional features to the base SAP features like storage sub systems, enhanced viewer/querying tools, and integration with other archiving systems.
So the choice depends on if you need additional features that the 3rd party tools provide. If you go 3rd party, I would suggest you pick a certified vendor.
You can find info on the standard functions at help.sap.com (the archive transaction is called SARA which can help the search).
Cheers,
Mike.

Hi Cherry,
I would suggest that you start with the SAP standard functionality and only evaluate 3rd party tools to fit a need not covered by the SAP standard functionality - that's is what customers typically do IMHO.
For information on Archivelink check the online documentation: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/b6/ff0d794b9e11d192f20000e829fbc6/frameset.htm

Hi Paul,
Check out this link:
http://www.sap.com/partners/directories/searchpartner.epx ->
Search by Solution -> Certification Category: Archiving.
You can use the qualifications 'Certified for SAP NetWeaver' and/or 'Powered by SAP NetWeaver' to further reduce the search. I would suggest you check 'Certified for SAP NetWeaver' at a minimum to get approved solutions.
Cheers,
Mike.
Hi Paul,
Try this link: I have only selected Archiving and Certified by SAP NetWeaver.
Cheers,
Mike.
