Install and activate Chinese language in WAS 6.20 Unicode System

Former Member

Hi,

I have a SAP WAS 6.20 Unicode System and I have installed the Chinese language by running the report RSCPINST following OSS note 42305. The installation was successful and no error messages. However, when I tried to logon the system with Chinese language option "ZH", the system did not display Chinese but English or German. Are there any clear steps/procedures to describe how to activate/turn on a language in a unicode system? Anyone did this before can share your experience and knowledge?

Thanks and Regards,

Yujun Ran

Hi,

I did the same installation in a R/3 Enterprise 4.7 (which is also based on 6.20) and had no problems.

The procedure was:

- reading note 482462

- copying the language files from CD to disk

- specifiying and importing language with SMLT

- zsca/second_language=E; zcsa/installed_languages=DE1

- supplement of language ZH with EN

No problem to logon (and I also see chinese characters) with language ZH. I also w'd explicitly recommend to use a SAPGUI 6.40 with a high patch level.

Hi Jürgen,

Thanks very much for your responding. I have read note 482462 but one thing I am still not that clear. Since my system WAS 6.20 Unicode system, do I still need import Chinese Language 'ZH' by SMLT? Should 'ZH' or any other languages have been already in the system? And we just need activate it?

Thanks again.

Hi Yujun,

nearly correct.

Unicode just means that it is possible to display every character/symbol used in the world (resp. just on earth). It doesn't say's anything about languages installed in a SAP system.

In every SAP standard system just the languages 'English' and 'German' are installed. If you want to use other languages you have to install them:

1. You need a language package which is usually contained on the language CD

2. You need to install this language with transaction SMLT

Try to use the Info-Button in SMLT for detailed information.

Hope this helps.

Best regards.
