communication between ecc and bi system

i have a doubt regarding communication between r3 and bi system. DO they use rfc,bapi or idoc please suggest.

Well, both. IDOCs are used to request new data and synchronise the communication of each data packages. tRFC are used to actually send the data packages.

RFC Connection is used to connect SAP BW and SAP ECC system.
