One of the highlights in 2023 happened in the SAP Office at The Circle in Zurich when it  transformed into a hive of innovation, hosting a hackathon that brought together different distinguished companies. Participants embarked on a four-day adventure, brimming with creativity, technological exploration, and a shared passion for artificial intelligence (AI) within the SAP ecosystem.

It's time to recap and start with our champions in the three exhilarating categories:

🏆 Real World Impact Award: The game-changers at Sensirion have done it again, blending innovation with practicality!

💻 Technology Factor Award: A huge shoutout to PostFinance for pushing tech boundaries and showcasing sheer brilliance!

🎉 WOW Factor Award: Hats off to Swiss Life for bringing the 'WOW' to our hackathon with their extraordinary creativity!

Sensirion

🤖 The team faced the challenge of revolutionizing the process for handling incoming goods at Sensirion, particularly the repetitive and tedious task of verifying, validating, and entering Certificate of Conformance (CoC) data into @Sap S/4HANA.

How could Sensirion implement this process in the age of AI?

💡 Thanks to AI and SAP Build Process Automation on the Business Technology Platform the process is now automated: The CoC PDFs are auto-detected in emails and sent to the Document Extraction Service for evaluation, checking, and info extraction. Post that, it's added to the S/4HANA purchase order where it's double-checked 🕵️‍♀️ with the actual delivery. It only requires human interaction if the evaluation of the CoC is not to Sensirions standard.

It was great to have you with us in the Circle Juraj Uhrin David Nussboeck and many thanks to SAPs coach Joël Plambeck!

PostFinance

🏋🏻 The controlling team of PostFinance faced an issue in their management reporting: Justification of figures and metrics are time-consuming, and deadlines are tight.

💡The team developed an innovative system for generating automated comments on financial metrics using generative AI, all combined on SAP Business Technology Platform. Using raw input data, the system generates text describing the deviations on a management level. With the included prompt, the output can be tailored to reflect new inputs or additional information passed on to the AI.

It was great to have you with us in the Circle Res Willener, Yvonne Gammeter, Tobias Meister (Novo), Karol Marter (Novo)

and many thanks to our SAP coach Jan Schanzenbächer.

SwissLife

🦾 The team addressed the challenge of unstructured customer data, fashioning a solution to streamline meeting preparations and customer onboarding processes.

💡They built an AI powered Assistant-Chatbot for SAP C4C utilizing our SAP BTP capabilities as well as OpenAI's Assistants API.

The Chatbot recommends actions based on real customer data via the chat interface but can also accept custom queries and interacts with Users in a natural way.

Their solution can for instance update customer related information or even hand over a customer to another Sales Consultant - alongside many other features.

It was great to have you with us in the Circle Manuel Seeger Jenny Elisa Wieries Jan Sipkovsky Patricia Borromeo and Sokratis Papachristos! Many thanks to SAP Coach Leon Hagenstein.

ABB

💪 Are you tired of manual, repetitive tasks weighing you down? ABB faced this challenge head-on and emerged as a true underdog, showcasing their innovativeness and openness towards new technologies and solution engineering.

ABB set out to overcome the burden of integrating various systems and harness the power of AI to generate impactful solutions. The problem statement was clear: how can we streamline processes and connect human interaction, cloud platforms, and on-premise legacy systems seamlessly?

💡  Thanks to the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and its suite of offerings, ABB achieved remarkable results. The Integration Suite, SAP Build Process Automation, and an AI-based Document Extraction service played pivotal roles in connecting disparate systems and automating tasks.

A shoutout to the team from ABB - Juri Bertoletti, Fabio Tiloca, Matteo Conti, who journeyed all the way from Milano to us at The Circle. Their dedication, creativity, and remarkable work, supported by SAP Coach Sonja Deissenböck, were truly inspiring!  👏

EKS

🌍 Challenge: They delved into a challenging project that addresses the evolving landscape of the electricity market in the face of climate change and increasing digitalization. In response to legal requirements and new customer demands, the electricity market is undergoing significant transformations. Smart meters empower customers to monitor their power consumption or production in real-time, leading to more accurate billing. The goal is to utilize this data to forecast future energy consumption or production.

💡 Solution: The team crafted a Fiori user interface integrated with a HANA database in the SAP BTP, allowing customers seamless access to their power data. Furthermore, users can input additional household information for improved forecasting. This combined data, along with other sources like local weather, will fuel even more precise predictions using ML algorithms.

It was great to have you with us in the Circle Dieter Herizmann, Selina Waldvogel, Simon Bogner (Agilita) and Michael Schmid (Agilita) and many thanks to our SAP coach Martin Friebe.

Oerlikon

🦾  OERLIKON engineers high-end products in surface and processing solutions for global markets and customers and requires raw materials and commodities for production. Internal and external price calculations are impacted by global price indexes and external market effects.

💡 Thanks to AI and SAP Workflow-Services in BTP and SAP ECC, OERLIKON developed an Event-Driven-Pricing model to automate the pricing calculation with accurate predictions and transparency for internal and external calculations to support Pricing Managers and Sales representatives but Finance & Controlling as well. The Event-Driven-Pricing model considers external market conditions and parameters for external market effects. The Event-Driven-Pricing solution contains the functionality to immediately update the price conditions in the core ERP system and it contains the option to take action by a workflow when the predicted values are out of range as well.

The OERLIKON team with Romi Bagga, Dushyantha Yelampally and Girolamo Oliva did an amazing job to build this solution in a very limited timeframe with new tools and technologies. Supported by SAPs Hackathon Team (special thanks to Nico Wyss) the team was able to present the solution to the OERLIKON management team with plans for productive usage

Migros

🔍 Their focus was on an exciting use case, delving into how AI can streamline the processing of invoice discrepancies. They thoroughly explored and tested the diverse capabilities of SAP BTP AI Core.

💡The prototype automatically analyzed invoice data, pinpointing past error sources. Building on this, it provided users with suggestions on potential issues causing the current invoice discrepancy.

It was great to have you with us in the Circle Thierry Klinkert, Esteban Diez Rozas and Claudio Lanfranchi and many thanks to our SAP coach Yiming Wang.
