SAP aims on sustainable electric mobility and the expansion of a partner ecosystem around the SAP E-Mobility solution
SAP made another step towards “ChasingZero” back in September 2021 with the availability of the industry cloud solution SAP E-Mobility. The solution sets new standards for the end-to-end management and billing of loading processes for electric vehicles of an enterprise fleet. Loading scenarios such as loading at home, at the workplace, or even at a public charging points require deep integration into a company's business processes. A further focus of the cloud software is that renewable energies such as locally including photovoltaic equipment into the loading procedure using the “Smart Charging” function. This ensures that the loading of vehicles can be as CO2 friendly as possible.
The software was designed independently of the loading hardware (EVSE vendors). This ensures that companies procure charging infrastructure on a non-discriminatory basis (compared to competition). The OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) standard is used, which is implemented by all leading manufacturers. To ensure that the software interacts smoothly with the corresponding loading hardware, SAP now offers a certification program for all manufacturers. The non-disruptive and complete transfer of load-specific data is essential for the trouble-free operation of loading processes. In addition to the product roadmap for SAP E-Mobility, the certificate proactively provides users of the solution a secured baseline when making decisions for the right partners in order to run fleet vehicles intelligently.
The certification of the loading hardware can take place in two different ways in the infrastructure lab. Certification can be performed remotely by the hardware partner itself. In this scenario, the partner tests the integration of the cloud application with its hardware itself. However, a charging point manufacturer can also provide SAP with the loading hardware locally, so the installation and commissioning takes place in Walldorf. In case of compatibility issues, SAP is working on a solution together with the partners.
Another focus of the Infrastructure Lab will be the connection and testing of various loading scenarios with other SAP applications from the areas of field service management, financial accounting, cost accounting and settlement. The customer requirements in the area of E-Mobility are often targeted towards the integration of the load transactions CDRs (Charge Detail Records) in existing SAP applications and partner solutions. Such integration scenarios can be tested using the infrastructure lab and test environment. To do this, the respective partner APIs are tested along the various load scenarios. The ability to integrate partner applications is an important part of the Industry Cloud strategy and supports customers in the long term on their path to becoming an intelligent and sustainable enterprise. For example: integration scenarios of providers of “EnergyServices”. The loading process is linked to locally generated energy here and the value chain in electric mobility can therefore be made more sustainable by another element. Furthermore, “Vehicle-to-Grid” will be tested at the bidirectional store. E-vehicles will be able to return and there will be smart electricity tariffs in the future.
