hi Lakshmi

Special Periods are 4 extra periods provided by SAP to make adjustment entries during the close. Generally these special periods are used during Year End close.

As Dan metioned above, this can be used for Quarter close also.

It is the decision of business on how to use these periods.

These periods can be kept open accordingly (wheter you are using this during Quarter close or Year Close).

Because these are typically periods subsequent to period 012, data for these periods is only included reports when these periods are included in the selections.

However some enterprises may use these for quarterly adjustment so that the 1st quarter results are periods 001-004 instead of 001-003. Likewise 2nd quarter is therefore 005-008.

Hi Lakshmi

If you want to make any adjust or execute any task in the special periods need to define/create in Consolidation frequency and Period Category which is under Periodicity on Data Model.
