SAP Integrated Business Planning (SAP IBP) is a comprehensive solution that helps businesses streamline their planning processes and improve decision-making. In this blog post, we will explore the recent enhancements and new features introduced in the SAPIBP1 sample planning area and the addition of new solution processes in SAP Best Practices for SAP IBP.

Enhanced SAPIBP1 Sample Planning Area:

The SAPIBP1 sample planning area has been enriched with several new key figures and attributes designed to store risk information from external sources, in our case risk data from Everstream. These additions enable businesses to better analyze and manage risks associated with their supply chain operations.

To ship the Supply Chain Risk Analysis story as part of the SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain, the SAPIBP1 sample planning area has been enhanced with one additional planning level and five new score key figures.

Additionally, new key figures in inventory have been introduced to support supply lead time calculation, providing valuable insights into optimizing inventory management and enhancing lead time visibility.

IBP for Demand - Demand Forecast for SAP S/4HANA Cloud:

A new solution process called IBP for demand - demand forecast for SAP S/4HANA Cloud has been introduced. This process outlines how businesses can leverage advanced forecasting algorithms in SAP IBP to generate accurate demand forecasts. The improved forecast accuracy allows better resource allocation and operational efficiency.

The Material Requirements Planning (MRP) run in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition needs forecast data to estimate future demand for materials and components. This information is crucial for determining the quantities of materials and components required to fulfill customer orders. SAP IBP offers superior forecasting algorithms and can provide a high-quality forecasts to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition.

This solution process starts with integrating master data and transactional data from SAP S/4HANA Cloud public edition into SAP IBP via SAP Integration Suite, Cloud Integration. In SAP IBP, the statistical forecast run delivers the data for the planned independent requirements (PIRs) integrated back to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition. The PIRs are input for the material requirements planning in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition.

Here are the key process steps:

  • Import master data and transactional data from SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition to SAP Integrated Business Planning
  • Gather and clean historical data
  • Run statistical forecast
  • Analyze and adjust forecast results
  • Analyze forecast quality
  • Integrate planned independent requirements (PIRs) from SAP Integrated Business Planning to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition
  • Run material requirement planning in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition

Preconfigured Analytics stories

You all know the analytics stories in the meantime. Analytics stories in SAP Integrated Business Planning provide real-time, best-in-class analytics. They are user-friendly and powerful. To make it easier for you to adapt this new functionality, we provide 4 preconfigured analytics stories for

  • demand planning process expert,
  • global demand planner
  • local demand planner.
  • Supply Chain Risk Analysis.

You can use the preconfigured analytics stories as a starting point for your implementation. They showcase various features such as chart types, filtering options, and the overall look and feel. They can serve as inspiration and provide excellent examples to follow.

We followed a certain guideline to ensure the same look and feel across the different stories. All start with an overview page, followed by additional pages for more details. We included examples of a linked analysis. When selecting e.g. a product family on the left chart, this changes automatically the depending chart on the right side and allows you to focus on the information that matters most to you.

We added examples of calculated measures in analytics stories.

The key figures you see here: Manual Forecast Value Add and SOP Process Forecast Value Add are examples of this type of calculation in analytics stories. This feature provides flexibility when creating the stories and is easy to use.

We added the demand related to the IBP for demand planning solution process. This enhancement benefits various stakeholders involved in demand planning. By utilizing these analytics stories, demand planners can optimize their forecasting accuracy and make data-driven decisions to meet customer demands efficiently.

And the fourth one is assigned to the IBP for supply chain risk management solution process.

This enhancement empowers businesses to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks within their supply chains. By leveraging these analytics stories, organizations can develop robust risk management strategies and ensure business continuity.

IBP for Maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO)

Since release 2308, a solution process for asset-intensive operations is part of the Best Practices. It offers transparency for mid-to-long-term MRO parts and resource needs, utilizing statistical forecasting and planning algorithms. We continue to enhance this process and now it includes master data maintenance rules as part of the segmentation process. The planner can now uses a planning view to analyze the expected project activities in SAP IBP.
