Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to announce the exciting enhancements introduced in the 2402 release of SAP Digital Manufacturing. Our ongoing commitment to empowering our users has expanded the platform's capabilities in various areas, including new Insights with additional Manufacturing Data Objects and enhanced SFC Reporting. With Resource Orchestration, we have released a new capability for rescheduling of orders in the work center mode and enhanced the labor planning based on skills. The combination of incremental improvements paired with new capabilities in dispatching & scheduling will help SAP to further deliver on our thought leading manufacturing vision. The innovations on edge are critical to scale the business to the next level.
Innovations in detail:
Execution
Dynamic Work Instruction via Streaming - Enhance your work instruction element by integrating it with SAP Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). This provides a more efficient method to deliver real time access to work instructions (WI) from PLM to DM/production for operator usage. The WI can be authored/ maintained in PLM and re-used/shared in/with DM at the point of execution, and no file store has to be maintained in DM, so it’s very lightweight.
Creating Efficient Handling Units - Streamline the process of handling unit creation either within the Goods Receipt plugin or during the generation of an EWM goods receipt to ensure smoother operations.
Optimizing Operation/Phase List Plugin Configuration - Enhance your Operation/Phase List with the ability to configure both an In-Queue action button and an In-Work action button. These buttons can be set to trigger a plugin or trigger a production process, therebyincreasing flexibility for the user to configure/customize these POD plug-ins to meet their specific user experience needs.
Introducing Innovative Time Tracking Strip - Integrate a cutting-edge plugin designed to display time tracking information to users within the POD for better productivity and efficiency.
Supporting Dynamic Data Types for GR and GI API - Enhance user capability by supporting dynamic data types and data fields for GR and GI API. This allows users to map collected data from the shop floor to fields within the ERP system, enabling more accurate and efficient data management.
Incorporate additional Manufacturing Data Objects that seamlessly integrate into embedded Analytics Cloud for SFCScrap, LaborSchedule, and TimeLog postings to fuel labor analytics.
Facilitate streamlined shift selection within the Line Monitor interface to allow shift based filtering of Line Monitor plugins.
Introduce improvements to the Line Monitor Plugin, including features such as Quality Plugin for concurrent operation execution, automated refresh for Order Selection, and increased flexibility in Order Summary extension.
Implement enhancements to the downtime plugin for improved functionality and user experience.
Live Connectivity to Manufacturing Data Layer to integrate custom solutions & extensions seamlessly for enterprise wide analytics (beta release).
Edge:
SAP Digital Manufacturing is based on a hybrid architecture composed of cloud and edge computing. This helps customers to keep pace with latest innovation in their plants while at the same time supporting business continuity for mission-critical operations on the shop floor. The following features are supported with this new release for edge computing:
Receive inbound calls from external systems, such as the Production Connector. It also can be easily integrated with custom APIs and applications. This allows extending the functionality and tailor it to unique requirements of the respective plant.
Setup and configure edge devices using the Manage Edge Devices app.
In addition to SAP Edge Lifecycle Management, customers can use plain Helm commands or a self-managed deployment tool for lifecycle management of SAP Digital Manufacturing for edge computing.
Monitor edge transaction delivery status and cloud connection status with metrics provided by SAP Digital Manufacturing for edge computing.
Resource Orchestration:
New feature available to perform Ad-hoc rescheduling of orders based on rules in the work center mode
Clustering logic is added to existing auto scheduling and rescheduling algorithm to perform automatic grouping of operations on work centers based on routing.
Excel upload of skills is enhanced to add custom values and primary skills
Automation:
Introduction of an edge-based MQTT brokerto which any 3rd-party MQTT client can publish and subscribe on. With this streaming engine, a shop-floor based service bus can be established. With "Manage MQTT Brokers", a new app in SAP DM allows the configuration of the broker and its connection to one or multiple Production Connectors.
Extension of the subscription section in the Automatic Trigger app Configure message subscriptions on MQTT broker topics to fetch published packages, add a condition to the package's content and act if the condition becomes true.
Flexible reading and writing of indicator values.Two new steps in the Production Process Designer allow reading and writing of indicator values in a more flexible way. The steps get the indicator identification handed over as input parameters and so the process can decide at runtime which indicator is to be read or written.
