Merchandise category hierarchy levels are specific levels within a company that define how the company is structured. Merchandise categories are a way to group similar articles together.
Electronics Retailer Example:
MCH - Level 1 - Electronics
MCH - Level 2 - Home & Theater, Audio & MP3, Mobile Phones, Office, Movies and Music
MCH - Level 3 - Printers, Office Electronics, Office Furniture
Merchandise Category - Laser Printers
So, a Samsung Color Laser Printer Model 3000 would be under MCH level:
Electronics -> Office -> Printers -> Laser Printers
An iPhone would be under MCH level:
Electronics -> Mobile Phones -> Smart Phones -> iPhones
Basically, merchandise category hierarchy is a way to position articles within an organization. Below are some links for further

Hi Sunil,
Merchandise Hierarchy is the hierarchy used in SAP Retail system mainly for Procurement\Internal planning purposes. A company code can have only one Merchandise Hierarchy, Hierarchy can have several levels with Merchandise category being the lowest to which articles are linked.
As for example you can refer the reply by Deep above.
Hope this helps.

Vikram
