Disclosure Management with Office 365

In this blog, I would like to clarify some questions on the Disclosure Management client (Office add-in) and Office 365

 

In the Product Availability – Essentials , the following is mentioned:

Please Note: Microsoft Office 2013, Microsoft Office 2016 and Microsoft Office 2019 are supported both under the classic Microsoft license model and the newer Microsoft 365 license model - no cloud features supported. The product Microsoft Office 365 (cloud) is not supported.

 

This has led to some confusion and questions which I will try to clarify here

 

Microsoft has used terms like Office 365 and, more recently, Microsoft 365 to use different things:

• a delivery model with different update channels (semi-annual, monthly)


• a cloud based application suite, known as "Office for the web"

 

Office for the web

If you use this, you will start Office in a browser, and use URL https://www.office.com/

The application will look like this:

If you launch an application (e.g. Word), you will notice there are no add-ins

Also note: in the Task Manager, there will be no "winword.exe" process

 

Disclosure Management will not work with this application

 

Office 365 (on premise)

If you see Office 365 in the add/remove programs, you are using an on-premise Office version, with the 365 delivery model.

 

In the "about" you will see the full details.

 

The applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) will be installed in folders like:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\OfficeXX\  (32-bit)
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\OfficeXX\  (64-bit)

E.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE

Note: in the Task Manager you will see the corresponding process (e.g. "excel.exe", "winword.exe")
