You may know our blog post Need another field in Manage Customer Line Items or Manage Supplier Line Items?, in which we showed you how you can use data source extension to add missing fields to your apps.
With data source extension, however, you can only add fields that SAP delivers as additional fields for a data source. But what if you need a completely different field?

Well, there is good news: as of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition 2402, you can create your own fields, also known as custom fields, and use them in the Manage Customer Line Items app or the Manage Supplier Line Items app. You just need to  create your field in the Accounting: Journal Entry Item business context and enable usage of the field in the Manage Customer Line Items app or the Manage Supplier Line Items app. For more information on how to do this, see our Product Assistance on How to Enable Custom Fields.
Please note that at time of writing, this feature is not yet available in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition.

Want to know more?

If you’re looking for a more detailed example and use case for custom fields, check out our Custom fields for the "Manage Customer Line Items" app: use case blog post.

Thanks for reading this blog post. We hope that you’re just as excited as we are that you can now use custom fields to enhance the Manage Customer Line Items app or the Manage Supplier Line Items app.
