Public Cloud - Storage location subtype purpose

When creating a new storage location in public cloud, the system is asking for a subtype to be assigned.

Refer to the screen shot attached.

What is the purpose of the subtype ?

My client is planning on using only one storage location for all stock types, will there be any issue in that case ?

Thanks for your response.

I checked the SAP threads that you provided but I cannot find an answer to my question.

My client's requirement is to only have one Storage location per plant, to use for all Material types i.e. Finished Goods, Semi-Finished and Raw Materials.

Will there be any issue if one Storage location with a subtype 'Finshed Goods' is used ?

What is the rationale for having separate Storage locations based on Material Type ? Is this necessary if the client is physically storing all types of Material in the same location ?
