Hi,
I am just trying to understand the difference between these fields and how they get derived in the universal journal.
In ACDOCA, both seem to be populated identically (certainly in postings flowing from SD).
However, ACDOCP seems a bit more temperamental - and you can't seem to derive one form the other
I want to use 'Import Financial plan data' to load a sales forecast - so data at customer / SKU level - and ideally, I want to derive all dependent fields so that the plan data can be reported against in the same way as actuals.
In particular, I am struggling to get profit centre derived. I would have hoped that plant should have been enough to
Any hints?
MATNR denotes the material moved whereas MATNR_COPA semantically means the sold product.
COPA is only responsible for populating MATNR_COPA. MATNR will be populated by the source application.
Normally they are the same (for example in billing) but in some cases there could be material movement without any sales (for example goods receipt) in which case only MATNR would be populated. In case of service industry it may be possible to populate only MATNR_COPA.
You are right that we cannot derive one from another since MATNR_COPA is a COPA characteristic but MATNR is not and is normally filled by source application
If you are looking at planning sales forecast then basically MATNR_COPA is relevant.
Regarding derivation I have explained it earlier in the discussion on current potential for Profitability Analysis in S4 HANA Public Cloud (which you are aware of since you also recently participated). If you can't find this information then let me know and I will also populate it here.

Thanks for that - always useful to have clarification on the detail!
Regarding profit centre - from the detail you supplied on the other thread regarding derivations - if we were to supply both plant and material in a plan load file - should we not be able to derive the profit centre from the material master?
