Can't change base unit of measure

Former Member

Our material's base unit of measure is accidentally created as Piece(PC) instead of Square centimeter(CM2) in the Basic Data 1 screen.

How can we change it to CM2?

When we try in MM02 t.code it gives us those error briefly:

-Stocks already at plant level

-the material is used in bill of material

-standart cost estimates for the current period already exists..

Could u plz guide me how to correct this situation?

Hi,

You can not change the UOM if there is any existing stock or Open PO's etc.

Firstly, you will need to reverse the Goods receipt and make the Stock Zero,

Then delete this particular item from all Open PO's/PRs

Delete the item from the Bill of Materials Used.

Take the help of your FI person to reverse the cost estimates,

Then only you will be able to change the UOM.

Hi,

I would say that the best way to handle this is to specify an alternative unit of measure of CM2 on the additional data screen of the material master and then set this unit to be your Order unit in the Purchasing view of the material, and if it is an inventory material you can also make CM2 your unit of issue on the Plant/data stor.1 screen, and if it is warehouse managed you can also then set CM2 to be your WM unit in the Warehouse Management 1 view, and so on with Sales and QM views etc. if they apply.

This will mean that although the base unit is PC, when it is procured, goods receipted or goods issued, the default unit will be CM2. If you follow this approach and you have existing stock which has been receipted in PC, you may have to do a 562 goods movement in MB1C to zero the stock, then re-load the stock using a 562 with a unit of CM2.
