What is Quality Gate Management?

  • Quality Gate Management (QGM) provides an integrated and consistent quality process for managing projects over all operational units across various organization of a company.

Quality Gate Management (GQM) enables us to :

  • Monitor all software change processes and obtain full transparency of these processes
  • Use a project based approach to distribute software across systems
  • Have an integrated and consistent overview of the implementation of changes to your SAP software solution

Why Quality Gate Management?

Yu are already using SAP Solution Manager to transport changes along your system landscape. But the changes and transports are documented in excel sheets.

You want to document the changes that refer to corresponding transport requests by using a simple, preconfigured procedure to manage your transports.

What Quality Gate Management provides?

  • It provides an integrated and consistent quality process for all operational units across all organizations.
  • It provides 100% transparency of changes.
  • It provides a central transport mechanism and change control system to manages changes across, technology stacks and application components.
  • It provides Quality Gate Maintenance with SoD(Segregation of Duties).
  • It has one central build, test, and deployment plan for all projects including their Quality Gates.
  • It has built in transport best practices.
  • It acts as a single source of truth to avoid nd manage risks of application changes in a project.
  • It has integration of every development workbench into the central transport and change control system.

Roles Required for Quality Gate Management:

Four roles can be identified in the process of using Quality Gate Management.

  • Development Lead: He/She is responsible for creating changes and TRs, assigning them to developers and releasing them, when the development is complete.
  • IT Operator: Responsible for importing the changes into the QA and Prod systems. He/She monitors while importing the changes and fixes any issue if it appears.
  • Quality manager: He/She performs checks at certain project milestone, for example checks whether project documentation and test cases are available in a good quality.
  • Quality Board Advisor: QBA is the steering committee for the implementation project. It supervises the risks of an implementation project.

Conclusion:

QGM provides an extra layer of governance in Change Control Management and is surely recommended to be used with CHARM in SAP Solution Manager 7.2 to bring more transparency.

Happy Learning!

Cheers!!!
