New to Dashboards, but have been working with Crystal Reports for years. I'm trying to determine if a dashboard can be connected directly to a database rather than the static summary dataset on the dashboard. Or is there a way to make the dashboard real-time?
Thanks
Hi Rodney,
Unlike CR there is no option to connect to database in Dashboard.
The reason behind this is the database has large data. And dashboard is actually to visiualize highly summarized data. And hence, the recommended number of rows of data is 512.
Ofcourse large number may work but 512 is recommended.
In the Data tab -> connections -> you can add webi services. (QAAWS created on unv and BIWS created on webi)
In order to connect to BEx query and unx directly you can make use of Query browser.
We also have Live Office where you can add unv, webi,cr report.
You also have other connections but these are mostly used by everyone.
There are lots of helpful documents and discusssions here on SCN you can go through it.
@Krishna: You cannot schedule the dashboards. I guess you mean we can have dashboard get data from the scheduled instances of report.

Hi ,
You can not directly connect to data base
even though if you connect through data base by means of stored procedure
the connection will break when you export to CMC
user
stored procedure ----> universe ---> webi Report --->QAAS -->Dash Board.
Best Way
even though there are so many complexities swill face when you Create Dash Boards Against Data base
you can schedule dash boards to particular time
Performance of the dash boards Degrades if the stored procedure directly hitting the data base
Thanks,
Krishna.

Yes, that's the main purpose of dashboards.
See for example the user guide here:
http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir4/en/xi4_dashD_user_en.pdf
Or, within Dashboards, click on the "Manage Connections" icon at the top (looks like two gold cylinders).
You'll find a number of different connection possibilities, both within the BusinessObjects Universe, or by writing your own scripts to handle the data connection (through an XML Data Connection).
