Deletion of planned orders - Materials flagged for deletion

Dear all,

Materials were flagged for deletion while planned orders had already been created.

What's your business practice?

Do you unflag these materials, rerun the MRP, and then flag them again?

Or do you just delete obsolete planned orders (MD12) if those materials have no open requirements?

I'm interested to find out as MD12 is not authorized in my current system.

Thanks.

The deletion indicator is not really more than a proposal for deletion. It sends a warning to the user when he tries to use this material further, nothing more. Restrictions have to be customized via material statuses which then have to be entered in the material master.

None of both with remove obsolete planned orders, this is a manual activity. When you set the deletion indicator then you should latest switch as well the MRP type so that this material is not planned anymore (in real life this happens often much earlier than setting the deletion indicator)

There are theoretical options which can lead to automatic deletions of planned orders, but they are actually an overkill, at least I would not consider them as a workaround: create enough inventory so that the planned order is not needed anymore, run MRP with Planning mode "3" which will will remove the planned orders, then switch the MRP type to ND, finally remove the inventory again. But even here you might face some limitations, e.g. if your planned orders are fixed.

Better get the authorization for MD12, a planner should have the authority to manually adjust planned orders.

Jurgen, thanks for the comprehensive answer.

About the deletion flag - I understand better now why it is authorized to add materials flagged for deletion to a work order. In standard SAP, only material statuses will prevent this from happening then.

About MD12 - I will request once again authorizations for the planners.
