User is posting an asset.
This asset is attached to an employee number in HR.
In the asset maset Cost Centre is mandatory.
My doubt is:
Can we create an asset without giving a cost centre after changing the cost centre field optional ?
If we do not give a cost centre in the master records, for the purpose of depreciation posts, will the system derive the cost centre from the employee master record ?
thanks for the inputs

Hi:
Value flow from asset master data is determined by two factors
1...Financial accounting using Account determination as set in AO90 ..this posts to GL accounting
2..Controlling using Cost centre or IO
If you do not enter cost centre the depreciation will still be updated in GL but not in CO hence activity rate for the cost centre will not calculated . Turning PERNR in Asset master data will not derive the cost centre automatically into Asset master data since there is no such integrations between these two via PERNR. I hope this will help.

System will not derive cost center from employee record for the purpose of depreciation postings.
It will look for cost center either from Asset Master or from OKB9
You can create an asset without giving a cost center after changing the cost centre field optional.
However if you need to post values in controlling area you have to create cost element for depreciation GL as mentioned below. If you do not want to post in cost center, don't create cost element for depreciation GL, in such case system posts only in FI
Since you allready activated controlling area and created cost element for depreciation GL, system is looking for cost object and you need to assign cost center either in Asset Master or assign cost element/cost center combination at OKB9.
Then only system posts depreciation in controlling area.
