Content Migration of PI 7.0 to PI 7.1

Hi Experts,

We have to PI installations within our company - PI 7.0 and PI 7.1. The plan is to migrate the contents of PI 7.0 to PI 7.1 and eventually shutdown 7.0.

Does anybody have any views on how this is best achieved. At the moment we have 2 migration options:

1. Migrate objects from 7.0 dev to 7.1 dev, then migrate 7.0 qa to 7.1 qa etc etc.

2. Migrate 7.0 dev to 7.1 dev and then transport 7.1 objects through the PI 7.1 landscape

3. Option two, but with a system refresh from production on the 7.0 environment to ensure all objects are consistent

Naureen,

To align your PI 7.0 DEV system with your production system may be as simple as exporting ESR and IB objects from PRD into DEV and QA, if you are certain there are no outstanding developments for objects being replaced. Once you have the PI 7.0 DEV system as you want it, commence with the earlier recommendations for migrating the content from the 7.0 to 7.1 landscape.

Thanks for all the responses.

A further question I have is that that once we have migrated our objects from DEV 7.0 to DEV 7.1 - we will not longer have a route to live - Does anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this. A change freeze is not acceptable due to other projects running on the 7.0 route.

Another question then - as expected the objects in our DEV / QA / are inconsistent compared to production. In order to line these up with LIVE we would need to do a homogeneous system copy from prod to DEV and then follow your recommendations - my question is will this method also update the objects in DEV?

As i said above, i agree with you Raja.

Migration to Dev, than transport QAS-PRD, is the best way in my opinion.

Hello Mr,

At the moment i work on a Migration project from XI3.0 to PI 7.11 (now we are in rollout phase), the migration plan is the follow:

- SLD

- Export from XI 3.0 compared to production

- Import to PI 7.11 Dev

- Transport from DEV to QAS

- Unit Test - Integration Test in QAS

- Transport from QAS to PRD

I think that this is the best way, especially regarding Integration Test in QAS (the objects tested successfully, will be trasferred to PRD)
