hi benny,

your collegue karin schattka wrote in the webdynpro forum that the abap support for webdynpro will be available with 640 - seems a bit confusing to me, have anybody already seen that there is no support in 640?????

kind regards

oliver

Hi Oliver,

I've asked back in ABAP product management. The official answer is:

Technically it will be there already but not for productive use. That means you will be able to use it but should expect incompatible changes in the following release.

I'll check with Karin to get our message straight.

Benny

hello benny,

thanks for the reply, we need a bit help.

we're intending to write a web-application which uses webdynpros and we want to do this in abap as this is our strategic direction, so we're going to get a plain WAS640 to use that (and go via RFC to our r/3 enterprise system) - what we need is an answer about, what it could mean "incompatible changes", we don't wanna make millions of applications with that until real-sap support but that one we have to do (and we have to do it this year), it's not that much "big" application, but we don't want to invest into technology (bsp or java e.g.) that we won't use in the future as abap for webdynpro can be available.

can you tell me some official sap-guys who could give us answers we can "deal" with ????

any help is welcome,

thanks

oliver

Well, what do you expect an incompatible change to be?

It could be that it is impossible to port it to the next version. That is, why it's not released for production use.

That means there will be no guarantee that you can continue to use what you do in 6.40.

This is definitely official.

I recommend to do it in BSP as BSP will continue to stay.

Regards,

Benny

Hello Oliver,

Web Dynpro for ABAP will definitely not be in NetWeaver 04, which is WebAS 6.40. The next release planned after this is NetWeaver 05, which is scheduled for 2005.

No more specific data is currently available.

Benny
