Subject: SAP GUI sunset

Description: As SAP is suggesting to move from GUI to Fiori applications. Even after moving everything to Fiori, do we still have access to SAP GUI for users who do not wish to move to Fiori. Need a clarity on SAP GUI Sunset if so any. I have tried to see if a SAP NOTE exists on this case, could not find any. Please suggest.

Hi KS2,

SAP GUI transactions are an integral part of the UI strategy for S/4HANA, both now and in the future. As such, the diverse products in the SAP GUI family will not only be maintained but also enhanced with future developments. There are no plans to discontinue these products.

See SAP Note 147519 and/or

  • SAP GUI for Windows 8.10 is currently under development and planned for Q4 2025 (subject to change).
  • SAP GUI for Java 8.10 is currently under development and planned for Q4 2024 (subject to change).
  • SAP GUI for HTML is shipped with new developments together with each SAP S/4HANA and SAP S/4HANA Cloud release.

Kind regards

Hello KS2,

I guess this is the same question that I answered some hours ago in your customer incident?

Well, let's repeat this here - this is valid for SAP GUI for Windows:
- No sunset is planned for this component
- We are planning to ship a next release (8.10) in Q4/2025
- SAP Note 147519 contains a statement which is pretty clear in my opinion. To sum up this statement: The need for SAP GUI for Windows is determined by the technology used to drive SAP applications. As long as SAP supports Dynpro based applications there will be a SAP GUI around. You should not forget that classic SAP products may have a very long life cycle. Of course the relevance of SAP GUI for Windows will continue to decrease as more and more applications move to other technologies.
- SAP GUI for Windows is not intended to be used for Public Cloud offerings. For these products, SAP GUI for HTML is the GUI of choice, because it communicates with the systems via HTTP(S) and not a proprietary protocol which needs dedicated SAP Routers to get to the systems.
- You cannot expect major developments in the SAP GUI for Windows area, because this component is no longer absolutely strategic. We are fully supporting SAP GUI for Windows and we are enhancing it as much as we can for our users, though.

Hi,

"Even after moving everything to Fiori" - that's wrong. We have a lot of transactions, business processes for which no Fiori-possibility exist, so we need GUI in future.

"we still have access to SAP GUI for users who do not wish to move to Fiori" because the performance of Fiori is slower than the same process in GUI.

Best regards
