Why on Windows the usr and sapmnt are in the same directory?

Hi all,

I was doing installation and this question came into my mind. On Windows, SAPInst instantly recognize the sapmnt folder and the usr folder. They are in one place. Yet, on Unix and Linux, these are 2 different directory.

What is the logic behind it? What obstacles that lead to such implementation?

Please excuse my lack of understanding. I am a fresher BASIS admin.

Hello Tam,

I guess it is just how it was designed...

Well Isaias Freitas, I guess the same. Yet...I am very curiously concerned the reason behind why things are designed that way.

Hi Tam,

sapmnt is similar as shared file name for /usr/sap.

In unix or Linux, this is set with the help of softlink concept. while in windows , both exists at same location.
