IBP - Multilevel supplier planning visibility in IBP

Dear Experts,

I am currently doing a POC for a retail customer. The customer’s requirement is very special.

They have multilevel supply chain and they want to visualize all their supplier’s plan in IBP for orders. The POC is about to use Ariba Supply Chain Collaboration to finish the E2E process.

As far as I know, IBP multilevel supply planning only supports the chain like

Vendor -> Plant -> DC -> Customer.

IBP could not support 2ndlevel or 3rd level, 4th level supplier.

Is this true that IBP could not support planning for supplier’s sub-supplier?

Anybody could suggest if there are any solutions for multilevel supplier visibility?

Thanks a ton!

I attached the customer sample BOM and Supply Chain Network diagram for better understanding the scenario.

Hello Yanbing,

To define a Location ID as a Vendor, it is possible to achieve it in the MDT Location by setting the Attribute LOCTYPE = 'V'. This makes the location a supplier location as the outer border of the supply chain network - see our SAP Help Portal Location.
Then you can create the transportation lanes in the MDT Location Source of Supply between the vendors, for example:

Ship-From Location ID Location ID
Tier 4 Tier 3
Tier 3 Tier 2
Tier 2 Tier 1
Tier 1 Company

However, the algorithms might have a check for this modeling, so it might not be possible. Another way to do this would be creating the Location IDs but don't specify them with LOCTYPE = V. They'd be Vendors for the end-users perspective, but not for algorithms.

Besides these two options, I don't see another way to achieve this rather than a standard functionality. In this case, I suggest you submit this idea to our new SAP’s Customer Influence Program for IBP via the following link: https://influence.sap.com/IBP. You can also check the KBA 2479068 for additional information.

Best regards,
Matheus

Hi Matheus,

Thanks answering this. Just want to understanding better.
The transportation lanes I believe you mean it is the "Planning Object" header in the excel-add on planning view.

Following layout show the relationship between multiple-tiers suppliers.

Ship-From Location ID Location ID
Tier 4 Tier 3
Tier 3 Tier 2
Tier 2 Tier 1
Tier 1 Company

Very important suggestion not specify them with LOCTYPE = V

I will validate this solution.

As supplementary for the solution:
I have to use "Time series" planning instead of "Order based" planning as far as my investigation, "Order based" planning model doesn't support multiple-tiers supply planning. "Order based" planning doesn't support suppler quota calculation either.

Thanks again.

Hi Yanbing,

No, the transportation lanes I mentioned above shoud be defined in the Master Data Location Source of Supply. As soon as you run a SCM operator, their planning objects should be automatically generated.

Not specifying the locations in the MDT with LOCTYPE = V will work. But using LOCTYPE = V has to be validated.

Plase share the results afterwards.

Best regards,

Matheus
