SAP Enterprise portal - SAP GUI for HTML

Dear Colleagues,

We have Enterprise portal and almost 300 Vendors are using our portal on regular basis. We are currently using "SAP GUI for windows" as all the vendors installed SAP Logon pad locally in their PCs.

Now we took security as a concern and trying to change the setup to "SAP GUI for HTML". When we check the same it is comparatively very slow than "SAP GUI for Windows".

My question is "Is there any security breach involved when vendors are using our SAP system using "SAP GUI for windows"?

How safe is "SAP GUI for HTML" when comparing with "SAP GUI for windows"?

Hello Jeganraj,

The main difference is that for the traditional SAP GUI for Windows, you have to open a proprietary port into your SAP landscape, whereas for SAP GUI for HTML you can leverage your already existing HTTP security infrastructure.

Thanks for your reply. Could you please elaborate on "Proprietary Port"? What I understood is we need SAP ITS if we go for SAP GUI for HTML. Suppose if we use SAP GUI for Windows then what kind of configuration do we need to perform at network level(like Webdispatcher-->EP Message server-->R3Dispatcher-->ECC Message server) and SAP side?

Hello Jeganraj,

For SAP GUI for Windows you have to make port 32<NN> for service sapdp<NN> accessible.

For SAP GUI for HTML, in my opinion SAP Web Dispatcher is a good choice, because it inspects the SAP system it connects to and therefore simplifies the configuration, but any other reverse proxy would do as well.
