Fiori Framework Page with Personalization --> but to what extent?

Hey folks,

.

System Information

SAP EP 7.5 on SPS 8, using Fiori 2.0 UX respectively 1.4X libraries with Fiori Framework Page in a Hrybrid solution (UI5 Remotely from Gateway and locally on the portal and WDA legacy apps remotely from Gateway).

.

Background

.

I'm currently building/designing a scope for a BETA/Prototype for a 7.5 based Portal which includes the topic "Portal Personalization". So far, we've agreed that we want to try allowing Portal Personalization to its full potential, i.e. building new groups, deleting/hiding stuff, rearranging the navigation, dragging tiles elsewhere, etc. All this will be topped with the "Oh Snap"-Button "Reset Personalization" which will also be made accessible to the end users so our Help Desk doesn't strangle me.

.

Question / Problem

.

At the very moment, I'm confronted with one major organizational problem, which is "How do we publish new content into an already personalized Portal?". Let me elaborate:

.

In general, there are different update modes for the content management of the FFP. Due to our experience with our enduser base, we have decided to force new content upon them (it would also be possible to have the FFP ask them "do you want to?..." but then they'll just click it away and write angry mails because they aren't presented with the content they declined 5 Minutes ago). I have subsequently tested how this technically works out in reality and unfortunately, it doesn't appear to work the way I hoped for. What I hope for was, that the new content would "somehow" intelligently force its way onto the personalization layer, e.g.: User hides Group/Category "ABC" --> New Content is forced unto Group/Category "ABC" --> Group/Category "ABC" is automatically reanabled/made visible. However, what acutally happens is User hides Group/Category "ABC" --> New Content is forced unto Group/Category "ABC" --> The user never sees it, because the group is hidden.

.

In between: No, I am not kidding. The only consistent solution I have found for now, is, to use the locked group category because it cannot be manipulated by the end user. This, however, kind of reduces the effect of personalization, because we're saying: "Yeah you can personalize whatever you want, except that group over there which stays at the top, because we're still patronizing you, what to use, because we're evil and whatnot" (still not kidding).

.

So, this made me think "Am I the only one dealing with the ups and downs of this feature?". Probably yes because of the Public Sector etc., but anyway, hence this post and hence the question: How do you manage Personalization in the FFP in your company and what problems are you confronted with?

.

Cheers, Lukas

Last-Effort-Bump. Guess I'm either the only one yet again or nobody wants to discuss this topic 😞
