Query and workbook migration from 3.x to 7.0

Hi Experts,

I have couple of question regarding Query and workbook migration. Please kindly advise.

1) Do we need to migrate all the underlying queries from 3.x to 7.0 before

migrating the workbook from 3.x to 7.0.

2) in the jump query, can we have source query in 7.0(which has migrated from

3.x) and the target query in 3.x itself while the workbook which consists of

these queries is migrated to 7.0

3) Finally, Say all my queries are migrated to 7.0 and the related workbook as

well. Incase I want to use 3.x workbook, is it possible for me to work with

existing 3.x workbook even though all the underlying queries are in 7.0.

Your help is much appreciated and points will be awarded upon helpful advise.

Regards

Shanthi

1) No. The 7.0 workbooks can handle queries from both 3.x and 7.0 query designer.

2) Yes.

3) You can open the workbook, but not edit the queries with the 3.x query designer.

Hope it helps.

One more question,

when a query is migrated from 3.x to 7.o, how does the workbook identify the new query. Do the old and migrated new query have same technical name??

Hi Shanthi.

Yes, if you open an existing query with the BI 7.0 query designer and press save it will be saved with the same technical name and you won't be able to open it with the 3.x query designer anymore.

Please be aware that workbooks act a bit different in the new BEx! I.e. you can't refresh single queries anymore - only the entire workbook!

Hope it helps.

Thank you Stefan. Just by looking at the query, can we tell if this is 3.x or 7.o. Is there a way for it.

Thanks for your help.
