ODS in multiprovider: Can not create aggregation level

Former Member

Hi Gurus,

we have a multiprovider which consists of several infocubes (standard and realtime) and a standard ODS. Our problem is that we can not create an aggregation level on this multiprovider. We get an error "infoprovider can not be used for definition". Is the problem that the ODS is not transactional or do we need to setup something else regarding the ODS. If we delete the ODS from the multiprovider, everything goes OK.

Thanks for any advice.

Jan

Finally I was able to solve the problem - there was a mistake in assigning the characteristics. Now I am able to create the aggregation level.

Thank you all for your contribution and help.

Hi,

the problem was not with the DSO but with assigning the characteristics in multiprovider. Check the char. assignment button when creating the multiprovider and let the system make a proposal for you - you will se it will work fine. The problem begins when you want the multiprovider to be assigned different than the system proposes, which is quite often though

Hi

I double checked the multiprovider and I am sure there is a real time cube switched to planning. Couldn't be a problem that the multiprovider consists of 10 cubes and the DSO?

Dear Cornelia,

it is a DSO and yes, we use some keyfigures which are only included in the DSO.

I tried "playing" with the multiprovider and it seems that the problem is not only in the DSO. When I delete it from the multiprovider I still can not create the AG. Is there e.g. a limit how many cubes an infoprovider can have and still can be planned? We are on SP 12.

Hi,

Do you get the same message after removing the DSO from the multiprov also? Can you check if, by mistake, you dont have any real time cube in the multiprov (maybe you missed to mark the intended cube as real-time)?

Hi Jan,

I am also workin on SP12.

I have a Multi consisting of 8 Cubes, 1 DSO and 1 InfoObject and no problems.

Is your Multi always active when you try to create the aggrlevel?

What if you leave the planing modeler, open it again and try again (I know it sounds stupid, but I sometimes get the message that an aggrlevel can not be activated and if I leave the modeler and start it again everything is fine).

Thanks for your posts, the error comes only when creating an aggregation level. The thing is I am not sure if it is possible to build an aggregation level on a multiprovider which consists of an ODS and several other cubes. I don't want to plan the ODS, I just need it for my plan query and calculate some data from it with a fox formula. The writing will be of course done to a real time infocube.

A solution would be to fill a cube from the ODS which should work fine but I was curious if there is some other solution.

Hi Jan,

is it an old ODS (3.5) or an DSO?

It should be possible to include an DSO, I did it already successfully.

I use standard DSO, there is normally no need for transactional DSO or something else.

Maybe you need a new Patch?

Are you by any chance using a key figure that is only included in your DSO?

Hi,

Can you specify exactly when do you get the error? It seems that this error comes at some other time and not when you create the Agr. lvl?

I dont think ODS is allowed to be part of a multiprovider that could be used in planning.Did you try to work with transactional ODS as part of multi provider?
