SAPup> ERROR: 1 error messages found in /usr/sap/put/log/SQLEXEAL.LOG.
Analyze the log (refer to the upgrade guide and the notes) and remove the problem(s) that caused the error(s). After that, repeat this phase until it is error free.
/usr/sap/put/log/SQLEXEAL.LOG says

I believe the issue is with the Table ATAB on the shadow database (R3DEVSHD).
We compared the table with the DB and shadow and did find a difference.
dspffd R3DEVSHD/ATAB
VARDATA show as HEX (shadow instance can no come up as we are past the STOP_SHDI_LAST phase.)
dspffd R3DEVDATA/ATAB
VARDATA is CHAR
How can this error be resolved? I do have a message to OSS, and have tried to escalate the past 3 days, but have not gotten any response.
