SAP Solution Manager (Solman) Integration with Atlassian Jira Service Management

Hi Experts,

My name is Fahad, I'm new to SAP Solman and have expertise in Jira. So, to explore more about Solman, I would like to check what is the best way to integrate SAP Solman (on-premise) with Atlassian Jira Service management.

Use Case:

  1. Incident Tickets to be created in Jira Service Management
  2. Automatically sync this ticket with Solman
  3. Periodically check for updates
  4. If SAP Solman tickets are updated, then update the Jira Service Management incident ticket

Design Idea:

  1. Create a middleware app that communicates with Jira Service Management (JSM) and SAP Solman using APIs

Question:

  1. How do Solman APIs work for SAP on-prem?
  2. Does this require additional costs?
  3. Do I need to request to enable these APIs or its enabled by default?
  4. Any challenges that a newbie in SAP should know 🙂

Thanks and looking forward to responses from experts around the world.

The best way to achieve this integration is by creating a middleware app that communicates with both systems using their respective APIs. Regarding Solman APIs, they work by allowing you to interact with the on-premise system and perform various operations. The cost and activation of these APIs might depend on your specific SAP license, so it's best to check with your SAP representative. As for challenges, being new to SAP, you might encounter a learning curve in understanding the intricacies of Solman and working with its APIs. However, with proper documentation and resources, you'll be able to overcome them.

To integrate SAP Solution Manager (on-premise) with Atlassian Jira Service Management, you can follow a structured process.

Firstly, leverage the Solman APIs, specifically the Solution Manager Web Service API, for seamless data exchange between Solman and Jira Service Management.

Typically, using APIs in SAP Solution Manager does not incur additional costs, but it's advisable to review licensing and support agreements to avoid unexpected charges.

Ensure that APIs are enabled in your Solman system, checking settings and permissions as needed. If required, consult with your SAP administrator for necessary configurations.

Challenges in this integration may include understanding the SAP Solution Manager architecture, addressing security considerations, and ensuring data consistency between Solman and Jira.

For newcomers, gaining familiarity with SAP terminology and the Solman environment is essential. Consider developing a middleware app that communicates via APIs, providing flexibility and ensuring a smooth integration process.
