Reporting from COPA vs ACDOCA

With all of the characteristics available in the ACDOCA table, what is the benefit of continuing to use COPA, even if you use Account Based COPA?

I see a lot of comparisons between Costing based vs Account based. But why use COPA still at all - I see nowhere that the documentation or any blog explains the benefit of continuing with COPA.

Thank you

Hello pietstrydom

Your question is quite interesting since the data is all available in ACDOCA and that was the expectation of S/4HANA. However, you still need to granulate your data available in ACDCOA to put together P&L based on a brand, product, product group, customer etc, which is not possible in traditional P&L through F.01.

In addition, there are tools like Cost Component Split, multiple quantities, price difference split, Real Time data flow in COPA witthout settlement, Event based Revenue Recognition in COPA without waiting for RA Calculation and settlement, which are supported in AB COPA on S/4HANA.

I hope this answers your question on why AB COPA is still required. I would think a lot more innovations would be coming in the COPA area with S/4HANA

Thanks & Regards

HI Sanil, thanks for your feedback.

What do you mean with "granulate your data"?

Hello pietstrydom

The term granulate would mean looking at profitability with various dimesnions. Eg, you need a simple margin analysis report as below:

Gross Trade Sales

- Deductions and Returns

Net Revenue

COGS Material

Other Overheads

Contribution Margin 1 (Net Revenue - COGS and Other Overheads)

Advertising & Promotion

Other Selling exp

Office Exp

Contribution Margin 2 (CM 1 - Advertising & promotion - Other Selling Exp - Office Exp)

Now if you want this data at various levels, say by Product, Product Group, Material Group, Location, Customer or Customer Group, it is not possible without using AB COPA.

Thanks & regards

HI Sanil,

Thanks for your update. However, all those dimensions you mention are available in ACDOCA as well. So as long as we can report on them in ACDOCA, I still do not see the need for COPA.

The characteristics that you need like Product, Product Hierarchy, Customer Group, Sales Office, Sales Org, division, channel, country & other custom characteristics would get updated in ACDOCA if you have an Operating Concern in place with AB COPA activated. You will not get these details updated in ACDOCA if you do not activate AB COPA in S/4HANA. If you activate CB COPA than also the details will not be updated in ACDOCA

Hope this clarifies the need as well

Thanks & Regards
