Hi Archana,

Allowances are not comparable to counters.

Allowances are very similar to contract items, and therefore contain their own set of counters.
Here are some of the main differences:
- Allowances are created dynamically upon charging events (e.g. when the contract is activated, when a consumption is charged, etc.), while regular contract items are created statically via provisioning operations. Due to this, allowances are processed by the rater, while contract items are processed by the updater.

- Allowances can also have a limited validity, defined in advance (i.e. expiry date and/or maximum amount of usable credit)

Allowances are designed to be more flexible and, generally, easier to use.
In particular, we also recommend using them rather than prepaid accounts, which are now kind of obsolete.

All details are given in Core tool's online documentation, on SAP's support portal.

Best regards.
