SUM tool is not starting for SOLMAN SPS 14 upgrade Java Stack

Hi guys.

I faced a problem homemade, yesterday. I updated the ST-SER 701_2010 to ST-SER 720 on SOL Man. Now, my stack.xml file isnt working anymore.

So i created a new one and placed it in the filefolder for update ABAP+JAVA Doublestack. SUM runs with no option until the stack.xml and filefolder

file versions are placed in.Then i have a break, the files in the update folder are not compat. with the new stack.xml, old one also.

So what to do now, ABAP Stack with SPAM and SAINT, later after Java Instance!  No, i read the error source in a other call here, at first Java instance and then ABAP with SPAM as workaround. i thougt stack. xml is my error source. So i started ./STARTUP javaonly from SUM filefolder anf nothing happens!! Which Gui i have also to start,( DSUGui) or normally the SUM comes up, and i got maybe a problem with the SLES11 SP3

So i tried several times with SUM SP13_8 starts on ( normal) but with javaonly nothing happens. And  then SUMSP16_2 will not start on my SLES enterprise server installation.

Plaese give me an advice.

Hi , i fixed the issue. So found in another oss note 1828860- not able to view the SUM upgarde UI.

DISPLAY env. variable is the source maybe exactly in LIUNX or SUN SOLARIS.

Hi thomas, the gui only works from folder usr/sap/SID/SUM/sdt/exe. in firefox there is in the html browser site, the description if the GUI does not start automatically , press

the GUI for the software update manager. I mean that on my old SOLMAN 7.01 this works with the

sdtdsu.jnlp file.save the file and the gui comes up! This ist hat what i mean.

So its me again. Yes it looks normal, but nothing happens on the server. So did i understanf something wrong in the manual for SUM? i don think so, the description is STARTUP javaonly and more not.

so, i didnt found that i have to call the DSUgui after the start of command STARTUP JAVAonly.

What normal comes after the comand=? A Gui interface, a window???

So, i installed the SOLMAN, updated it to SPS13 and now only wanna do the SPS14!

After the NW74 upgrade project, that i have done in the last months, this must be an easy little

thing, nothing for big brains.

SUM SUM10SP16_2-20006543 will not be working an SLES 11SP3. I dont know why. I dont have the time to fix it, there are some new projects in the queue, and i havent the time to solve all installation error stuff. This is now the second day, of try and error!

looks like a normal startup to me.

So what happens if you point yopur browser at http://<yourhostname>:4239???

Have you tried to remove the SUM directory and start from scratch?

Hi Thomas. Yes i did. i removed it( SUM) SP13_8 several times and go back from scratch.

The DSUGui comes everytime up, on Port 4239, but not the STARTUP JAVA only Gui. I checked http://<yourhostname>:4239 that in the standard browser of SLES11SP3( firefox). the sap SUM launching site comes up!  but the download only for the sdtdsu.jnlp file to file folder sid adm for download is possible.

I don't quite understand what you mean by this:

If you can only download sdtdsu.jnlp but not run it, then it seems to be more of an issue of file associations in your browser or did the SUM GUI worked before??
