Becuase i don't think so it will be much useful of PCN in this case but curious to know the purpose of PCN during sloc - sloc posting.

Any help on this will be highly appreciated.

Thank u..

Hi Om,

It is extremely important to have a PCN in a sloc to sloc transfer posting. Allow me to elaborate with a example.

Suppose you purchased an apartment from a person A. The physical location of the apartment and therefore its address would be unchanged, correct?

But since the ownership has now changed from person A to yourself; you would have to send a notice and have the apartment transferred in your name.

Similarly, the material may stay in the same warehouse bin physically but its ownership needs to be changed in the system from one sloc to the other.

A posting change notice is similar to a transfer requirement as transfer orders need to be created and confirmed for both. However; the material moves physically in a transfer requirement but may remain in the same place and have its ownership changed through a posting change notice.

Hello OM,

Whatever Vidyanand said is correct. But I would like to add more which will make you to understand the concept.

Whenever you want to transfer the stock  logically or physically then in WM we need to have some reference document.  either TR or PCN(Posting change notice). TR has limitation as, it can be created with in one plant with only one wh sloc. In other word, we can not use two different sloc in TR. Therefor we can not transfer the stock from one sloc to another sloc belonging to same warehouse using TR.

Whereas PCN there is provision to use two different WM manged sloc and hence can be used across two WM managed sloc  In this case, there will be two line items created in PCN.

You can check the process using manual PCN process with LU01 transaction. If you look at transaction LB01- creation of TR then you will find that there is no provision whereby you can use two different WM managed sloc.

Hope your doubt is clear.

Thanks,

Use the below mentioned SAP link to understand it in detail . It is clearly mentioned in the help that "if there is any change in the stock data of a material and that is affecting bookkeeping information then system generates PCN" e.g. when you do a SLoc1 to SLoc2 transfer at IM level system transfer the stock from SLoc1 to SLoc2 but the WM is still pending and to perform the WM activity you need to create a TO against the PCN and complete the activity

PCN standard for Posting Change Notice.

For normal sloc to sloc transfer from MM side, it doesn't need the PCN posting.

But if you have WM module active in your system, then you need it.

The term PCN is purely used for WM module. Try to search in help.sap.com about PCN. You will get many help document.
