Good day,

We are currently migrating BPC cubes from one server to another.

My question is will this require a full Re-install of BPC.

Please can someone assist?

Hi Shadrach,

what you need it's only a backup and restore, you can do this from bpc server manager=>Appset and you can choose to restore only DB or all the environment.

outside of bpc, see please

Hi Roberto

Just to be more clear.

Our Application sits on one server (SERVER A)

Our Databases sits on one server (SERVER B)

Our BPC Cubes sits on one Server (SERVER C)

What we want to do is migrate the Cubes that sit on Server C, to now sit on Server B.

Will a simple backup and restore  from BPC Server manager be sufficient?

Shadrach

Hi Shadrach,

BPC cubes resides on the analysis server. If you want to transfer the cubes to server B, then, first you need to install the analysis server on server B. Take back up of your appsets from server C. Then you go to server A, and change the link to server B. Then restore your appsets on server B.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Server B is the database server, so you will have to configure BPC server on server B and then backup and restore.

Basically, you server C configuration has to be implemented in B as well.

Hi Kalyan

Thanks for the reply.

By configure BPC Server on Server B, Do you mean:

1. open BPC Server Manager (which will be on Server A - Where our Apllication sits)

2.  Click Options - Server Options

3.  Update Fields - Olap Server name (from Server C details to Server B details)

Insight OLAP Server name (from Server C details to Server B details)

4. Then we Restore All our Appsets via Server Manager

Kind Regards

Hi Shadrach,

please explain better:

on server B are yours BPC DB, i.e. the facttables and the other bpc tables?

on server C yours BPC cubes, what means? You have there only the analysis services? How is it possible?

Or you have in server B and C 2 different BPC environment like Development and production servers?

Kind regards

Hi Roberto

Yes server B is our Database server (so all tables and databases sit here)

Server C is where the Olap and Insight Olap Server sits.

All is for the same environment - which is our Production Environment

Hi Shadrach,

if your server B doesn't have Analysis services installed then you need first to install it on B.

You doesn't have a restore only for Analysis services on BPC server manager, maybe there is an option on SSMS but I don't think has sense to backup and restore only AS and not the entire DB.

However after a restore you need to do a modify application with process application checked and this recreate the OLAP from your fact tables so I think is unuseful to restore the OLAP.

Just remember to change the path on BPC server manager -> server options.

Kind regards

Hi Nilanjan

We do not want to change our Application Server (Server A) where BPC was installed.

Just want to migrate the BPC Cubes (Olap and Insight Olap server) from Server C to Our Database server (Server B).

Hope i am being clear and not confusing everyone

Hi,

Do backup and restore. You  have to backup and restore entire environment as there is no option to restore individual cube. So what you may do is just backup and resotre the environment and then remove the cubes you do not need in destination server.

You will not need to reinstall if the destination server is already configured for BPC.

Kalyan.
