Is there option to issue alternative items on the production issue or goods issue.

For Production BOM, alternative items defined for the original components are not available for selection as these alternative items may not meet the exact specifications required for production.

A workaround is suggested in Note

Symptom

When working with Production Orders, sometimes the component items do  not contain sufficient stock to complete the production process.

In this scenario, is it possible to work with Alternative items in the Production Order?

The Alternative Items (Defined at Stock Management -> Item Management ->  Alternative items), which are accessible via the Item Availability Check  in Sales Orders, are not available in the Production Order.
To view the alternative items defined for a component item in a  Production order it is necessary to implement an alternative solution. To do this:

1. Create query to select the alternative items defined for the  component item. There are two such sample queries attached to this note.  Both sample queries are designed to work at row level in the Production Order. If using either of these queries, please test it to ensure it meets your customers requirements.

• Sample query 1:

• Alternative_items-full_list.txt

                     This query returns the full list of alternative items defined for this component.                     The list is ordered by Match Factor and In Stock quantity. of the alternative item, in descending order.                     The result is structured in the format:                     Item: Itemcode, Match: Match Factor %, Available Quantity: available quantity figure.

• Sample Query 2:

• Alternative_items-best_option.txt

                     This query selects the best available alternative item from the defined list.

                    The results of the query are ordered by Match Factor and In Stock quantity, in descending order. The query then returns the first item from this list.

                    The result is structured in the format:

                    Item: Itemcode, Match: Match Factor %, Available Quantity: available quantity figure.

2. Create a User Defined Field (UDF) on row level of the Production Order. To create a UDF:

• Go to Tools -> User Defined Fields - Management.

• Navigate to Production and highlight Production Order - Rows

• Click add to open the Field Data window and enter the relevant setup definitions for the UDF.

• Click Add to add the UDF.

3. Open the Production Order and create a Formatted Search (FMS) in  this UDF. The FMS uses the query created in Point 1 above to select the relevant alternative items for the component in question.
