Hazardous substance register list (Gefahrstoffkataster) in “Product compliance New" available?

Hello experts,

is there a standard function in “S/4 HANA Product Compliance New Functionality” (PC New) for creating a location-specific Hazardous substance register list (Gefahrstoffkataster) according to the German Hazardous Substance Ordinance – GefStoffV?

  • with GHS classification of the hazardous substance
  • annual amount and current amount in stock

I am referring to the solution PC New for the process industry which supports the processes product marketability, dangerous goods and SDS management. This new solution is using the new data model with Chemical Compliance Information and does not use the old transaction CG02 like PC Classic.

I could not find a Hazardous substance register function on the roadmap of the cloud version of PC New

https://roadmaps.sap.com/board?PRODUCT=42F2E964FAAF1EDABA8BD0F9F02200EC&PRODUCT=42F2E964FAAF1EDABA8B...

Maybe somebody already has experience with PC New and can give some input.

Many thanks in advance

Duc

Hello

regarding;

"Hello again.

Maybe PC's Substance Volume Tracking function can be used to develop a Fiori App to deal with your need?
I'm just theorizing at the moment, mind you, and I know it might be a way too long stretch. "

PAY ATTENTION: SAP will clearly align "Product Compliance" and "EHS"; According to my understanding: you need to differentiate the "license" part and the "Software" part.

The new EHS will support your deman clearly. The new SVT is not "useful" at it is linked to the "old" SVT and therefore is not interested regarding the topic: what is the current stock for material X in plant/storage location).

Assumption is: with 2025 Product Compliance and EHS will come "closer" together. Please check SAP Marketplace to find official announcements regarding "Roadmap" of both solutions (and timeline for getting some functionality).

On top: check SAP Roadmap Explorer to get more insight here

With you the best

Hello

my current understanding is: "PRoduct Compliance" will not contain the function you are asking for. The "new" EHS software should contain this (according to my assumption)

https://community.sap.com/t5/product-lifecycle-management-blogs-by-members/new-sap-ehs-management-fo...

Tries to help a "little" bit

Therein you will find this link:

https://community.sap.com/t5/enterprise-resource-planning-blogs-by-sap/product-compliance-in-sap-s-4...

SAP is explaning there the "content" of "Product Compliance"

For the R/3 component "Component Extension SAP EH&S Mangement" (according to my understanding) we will get a completely new software with S/4. This new software is called "EHS". I believe: this new software will contain the "Hazardous substance register" (please check this link to get more insight: https://community.sap.com/t5/enterprise-resource-planning-blogs-by-sap/environment-health-and-safety...)

In a nutshell: The new product structure for S/4 HANA environment is not "easy to understand"

Hello Duc

First, I must state that I'm not at all familiar with the "German Hazardous Substance Ordinance – GefStoffV".

On the other hand, I've been implementing the "new" S/4HANA for EHS and S/4HANA for Product Compliance products (they're add-ons so to say and require separate licenses, each).

Product Compliance deals with 3 areas:

  • Product Marketability and Chemical Compliance (regulations and policies, always from marketabiliy chain standpoint),
  • Dangerous Goods Management (this one deals with the transportation of dangerous products) and
  • SDS and Label Management (again from a marketability standpoint).

You can read the outlines here: https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_ON-PREMISE/1b3ff98fcd204187afc91f4fcf095c25/2a5215f54aa9458a898... (it's valid for both cloud and on prem solutions). If I understand right, this solution does not meet directly your needs.

EHS, on the other hand, deals with Environment Management and Workplace Safety (as of 2023 - I believe SAP will soon split this into 2 separate products, with the Environment Management being more closely tied with the ESG solutions SAP is starting to bring to the market). The mais concern with this solution is not Supply Chain needs but to meet Environmental, Health and Safety needs, so the "mindset" is different from PC. Read more here: Environment, Health, and Safety | SAP Help Portal.

EHS is a bit more fragmented in terms of "sub" modules". There's the Chemical Approval and Chemical Management and also Operational Risk Assessment (besides many others) that can be linked to the PC solution providing that the relevant data fields in PC, regarding safety and environment information, are maintained (the exact same fields you can find in a SDS). It's not a straightforward process but it exists and can be used, but it's not mandatory or strictly needed - it's a nice to have that saves some (or a lot) of work.

The "main" Master Data in EHS is "Locations" (sorted in a hierarchical structure, with dependencies), and everything else has to be linked to some location, including the Chemicals used in the company's processes.

I haven't yet started with these last #"sub"modules (the client has a more pressing need implementing PC), but I believe your need is met by the EHS solution. Read the SAP Help carefully, I believe you can find the answer you're looking for there.

To conclude: both of this S/4HANA products work very differently from the classic solutions (even if PC still has some "awkward" ties with some data fields of the classic solutions, as I just found out). Both use exclusively Fiori even if for on prem you can fully configure them via SAP GUI (not really sure about how the cloud solutions work in this matter, as I'm new to this).

I can believe they are mature enough products that, notwithstanding, are still evolving to meet customers' needs and that it will still take some time to perfect them.
Also both are the products SAP will be putting their efforts in, as the classic solutions have sunset dates.

I deeply apologize for not being able to give you a straight answer, but I hope I can point towards what you're looking for.

Hello Paulo,

thank you for the input.

SAP S/4HANA EHS workplace safety does have a fiori app function called  "Manage hazardous substance inventories" which cover the requirement for complying with German Hazardous Substance Ordinance.

But customers which are only licensing S/4HANA Product Compliance New (PC New) functionalities also requires this function. I could not find it on the roadmap for PC. In the worst case the customers either have to license S/4HANA EHS workplace safety and build an interface between the 2 modules to transfer the substances or they have to build this function in PC New.

On the upcoming SAP events we might be able to get some new information.

Best wishes

Duc
