Summary

In this webinar, we have Vinay V, discussing the latest release highlights of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2023 in the Research and Development (R&D) line of business. It is a broad area that includes project control (including project logistics and project financial control – classically the area that Project Systems covered), and product engineering as the core areas. R&D also includes product compliance, product lifecycle management (PLM), portfolio and project management, and circular economy. The 2023 release brings improvements in many of these areas. 

Key features and enhancements 

  1. Project Control: With the 2023 release project cash management is made to acces the Universal Journal directly. Also, new integration of responsibility management into project systems enables efficient team assignment for workflow and situation handling, etc. 

  2. Product Development Foundation: A new item category called a 'non-plant item' has been introduced to add services and project items without needing a plant assignment. It simplifies the set-up, especially in service-based organizations. 

  3. Change Management: Taking feedback from customers, we have provided the ability to add the same component multiple times with different relevancy into a change record. This is useful especially for long-running change processes, providing transparency over different phases of product change. 

  4. Integration with External PLM Systems: Enhanced integration with external Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems is made possible through seamless bi-directional document exchange between SAP solutions to an external PLM system. 

  5. Product Compliance: In the context of substance management, better management of customer-specific phrases (“called company-owned phrases") is now available. This reduces complexity, eliminates duplicates, and ensures synchronization for effective compliance management. 

  6. Listed substances provisioning through regulatory content service: This update ensures organizations to stay informed with the latest listed substances and listed substance group assignments. 

  7. Substance Volume Tracking: Enriched control and flexibility are offered for substance volume tracking processes. This functionality helps organizations comply with regulatory requirements by recording quantities of sensitive substances. 

  8. Safety Data Sheets Handling: Enhanced handling of multiple and international addresses in safety data sheets results in efficient and regulation-compliant documentation and labelling – for example, printing of product names in English and Chinese.
