Internet Explorer 9

Hi,

Has anyone had any problems using Webi with the new internet explorer 9 on windows 7?

I can log in and everything, however, when I go to open a webi document I get a "HTTP Status 400 - Invalid path /AnalyticalReporting/WebiView was requested" error message.

Due to this problem I've had to resort to using Firefox. No problems viewing documents in this browser.

Is anyone aware of a this problem and a solution for internet explorer 9?

Hi,

It is no surprise you are getting error when using IE 9, this version of IE is currently not supported regardless which version of Webi you are using.

IE 9 was only released to public March 2011, it will be a while before proper testing can be done and included in the supported platform guide for Business Objects Enterprise.

You may want to check the supported platform guide for more details.

The final release of IE9 was in March, however it was available to the public as a beta for 12 months prior. SAP had plenty of warning and time to fix their products, especially as they tout their strategic parnership with Microsoft as one of their key differentiators.

Anyway, we came up with a work around for IE9 support if you need a solution now.

One warning - this workaround will not be officialy supported.

IE9 is planned to be supported in SP5 for Xi3.1, sheduled for Q4 of this year.

Well at least we have a time frame now.

The workaround won't need to be supported, since it's trigged by catching 404 errors in tomcat. If SAP fix the problem, the 404 s won't be triggered and everyone will be happy !

Just out of curiosity - how many Enterprise software vendors have active support for IE9 ?

To be fair to SAP, they can't really develop a tool to be compatible with a beta version of a browser.

We've noticed other issues with IE9 affecting other web apps so we've left well alone on the Webi front.

I am in agreement with Hayden. With what we pay in license fees for Crystal, isn't it about time that SAP became a bit more responsive and proactive, rather than slow, ponderous and reactive. Everyone here seems a little more tolerant than I would have expected. This is not new software and IE9 has been on Beta for quite a while. Are SAP seriously asking us to believe that they did not know it was coming?

Sounds more like penny pinching in R&D to me, or perhaps I am just being cynical. They went through this dance with us over IE8. If anyone from SAP is reading this, how about some official real answers as to why the problems occur, how to get around them and when the next release is coming which fixes such compatibility issues.

How many enterprises have started supporting IE9 in their intranets ?

I bet majority are doing it exactly like SAP does. Yes we can be more active - and we are, support for IE9 scheduled for SP5.

If you feel like this is too slow, you can go to Idea place and submit an Enhancement Request, which will be reviewed by Product managers, who will provide a responce to that idea.

Why don't you tell us how many enterprise companies, with enterprise level Web applications didn't start supporting IE9 out of the gate or how many enterprises haven't started supporting IE9 in the their intranets?

I think that you're probably right in saying that many companies haven't caught up with supporting IE9 but people come to these forums to seek solutions not excuses as to why vendors aren't keeping up.

None, to the best of my knowledge. It takes time after new product is out for the app vendors to test and make adjustments to their apps. I think SAP timeframe for this is very agressive.

I support both Business Objects and Microstrategy BI tools and I can tell you Microstrategy was supporting IE9 within a month after IE9 was released in March of 2011. Business Objects has always been behind (by at least 6-9 months) the other BI vendors such as Microstrategy. I happen to like both of these BI tools, but it has been my experience that Microstrategy is always several months ahead of BO in keeping up with other software vendor tool versions and IE9 is a good example.

IE9 is now supported in XI 3.1 SP05, and in the forthcoming FeaturePack03 for BI 4.0 (for which Ramp Up registration is now open)

I've got an IE9 test environment and tried BOXI 3.1 SP3 and can log on to InfoView but I can't run a single report. I get the same issues Hayden Gill was mentioning.

Do you know why BI 4.0 works with IE9 and 3.1 SP3 doesn't?

IE 9 is not supported by both those products, which means they were not design or tested with IE9, so the behaviour can be anything.

I've been using Chrome and IE9 with BI4 for a while and have never had a problem.

Just remember that if you start getting strange behaviour, the first thing you need to do is test in a supported environment.

Hi John,

I don't think IE 9 is a supported browser for BI 4.0. However I have not encountered the same issues with IE9 as I did in XI 3.1.

I notice that Firefox support has not been updated in a while. Now that Mozilla seem to be releasing a new version every 6 weeks, how will SAP intened to support Firefox going forward? Also, are there any plans for Chrome support, which also has a regular release schedule?

FF and Chrome support are under review, so that SAP policy and frequency is comparable to their release strategy.
